Subject: Second Life From: dwditty Date: 25 Mar 07 - 07:41 AM People are telling me that they are making real dollars playing in the virtual world called Second Life. www.secondlife.com You can't get more untraditional than that. dw |
Subject: RE: Second Life From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 25 Mar 07 - 08:04 AM Useless for anyone on dialup. |
Subject: RE: Second Life From: katlaughing Date: 25 Mar 07 - 10:53 AM Interesting. Apparently they even make guitars. :-) A little hard to see what is 3D and what is virtual from their careful wording. |
Subject: RE: Second Life From: GUEST,meself Date: 25 Mar 07 - 11:04 AM That animation makes me sea-sick. |
Subject: RE: Second Life From: dwditty Date: 26 Mar 07 - 11:13 AM The place is just plain weird, to be sure, but, having played a bit there this weekend (live online) and listening to others, I can vouch for the simply outstanding sound quality. dw |
Subject: RE: Second Life From: sian, west wales Date: 26 Mar 07 - 11:37 AM There was a thread 'above the line' asking if anyone knew of any folk venues in Second Life. I've pottered about just to see what all this SIMania is about but haven't bothered to move beyond the help island thingy. My main query is: can this sort of thing be used to reach 'new/young' audiences and get them interested in folk / trad? sian |
Subject: RE: Second Life From: dwditty Date: 26 Mar 07 - 02:16 PM Sian, I have not seen any folk clubs, per se....several acoustic venues which may be interested in booking folk. I play mostly acoustic blues - a lot of it roots stuff - and I seem to be getting pretty good acceptance there. I am very new to SL. It is all a bit overwhelming to me, and I really have no interest in "getting good" at SL. I just want to go in and either listen to or play music with astounding sound quality. To get an idea of what can be done, here is a video od somebody making a guitar for Suzanne Vega and here is a video of Suzanne Vega's avatar singing on SL dw |
Subject: RE: Second Life From: dwditty Date: 26 Mar 07 - 02:19 PM Just to explain my last post, the video of Suzanne singing, while a cartoon of her actual performance, was recorded with her singing live. dw |
Subject: RE: Second Life From: dwditty Date: 26 Mar 07 - 02:20 PM And, Sian, I forgot to say that I will ask some of the club owners on SL if they are interested in booking folk and report back via this thread. |

Subject: RE: Second Life From: GUEST Date: 27 Mar 07 - 04:20 PM Watched the video out of curiosity and found it very poor quality: unnatural movements, left hand often behind the neck.... get a (first) life!!!!!!!! |
Subject: RE: Second Life From: dwditty Date: 27 Mar 07 - 04:48 PM Guest (which must be the generic name for people whose lives are just too wonderful to attach a recognizable moniker), thanks for your thoughtful, witty, poignant comment. I am curious as to how you know so much about me. Did you google me or something? |
Subject: RE: Second Life From: dwditty Date: 21 Sep 07 - 04:59 PM Some friends and I have a gig at a local pub on Saturday 9-22 from 8-12PM mudcat time. The show will be broadcast live to MJs Blues Club - a virual venue on Second Life - where you can listen to the band in high quality sound. This is a first for me...broadcasting from a venue to the internet...and it has created some buzz around the gig. I will report back as to how it goes. dw |
