Subject: BS: Grand National From: Dave the Gnome Date: 14 Apr 07 - 10:03 AM Well, it's my once a year visit to the bookies. £1 each way on a horse for everyone in the house. £10 stake altogether. We have Numbersixvalverde Point Barrow Le Duc Kelami Celtic Son I'll post how much up or down I am later today or tomorrow. Anyone else want to own up to throwing money away? ;-) Cheers Dave |
Subject: RE: BS: Grand National From: GUEST,Noreen Date: 14 Apr 07 - 10:26 AM Hi Dave! 50p thrown away here on the work sweepstake- I drew The Outlier (101-1). Like you, the National is my only interest in horse racing. Brings back happy memories as I was brought up near Aintree. Fingers crossed! |
Subject: RE: BS: Grand National From: Georgiansilver Date: 14 Apr 07 - 10:47 AM Joe Edge will take some beating if he of course stays on his feet which in the National is a feat in itself. Worth a bet though if I were still a gambler!. |
Subject: RE: BS: Grand National From: The Shambles Date: 14 Apr 07 - 03:47 PM Never again. A few years back, the whole family had money on Eshaness (as we used to live there) and we all watched it win the race - only to find the result null and void. Mind you about half way through this year's race I wondered if there was any name that may ring a bell in the same way. The name Silver Birch came to mind as it is my wife's favorite tree and she has just posted one - for our brand new Grandson. I then watched it win, of course. |
Subject: RE: BS: Grand National From: Dave the Gnome Date: 14 Apr 07 - 04:21 PM Well, absolutely bugger all - Very unusual. We usualy get something at least. Only 2 of the 5 finished - No6 etc and Kelami. I am not sure if le Duc started - If not I get £2 at least:-) Cheers D. |
Subject: RE: BS: Grand National From: bubblyrat Date: 14 Apr 07 - 04:28 PM The last win I had on a horse was 200 Hong Kong dollars on Red Alligator ( 1968 !! ) ----It"s a mug"s game !! |
Subject: RE: BS: Grand National From: Dave the Gnome Date: 14 Apr 07 - 04:40 PM Damn! Le Duc was pulled up at Beechers first time round. Can't even get my £2 back! never mind - Just seeing how we did on the lottery... :D |
Subject: RE: BS: Grand National From: sian, west wales Date: 15 Apr 07 - 12:28 PM Well, I went £1 each way on Billyvodden, BotharNa and Liberthine, and 50p each way on Silver Birch and Slim Pickings. Most years mine all fall or get pulled up before they finish the first circuit. I suppose my un-luck holds to some degree, as Silver Birch and Slim Pickings were the least profitable of my bets. Haven't been to see how much I'll rake in - maybe £35-ish? I had them all at 33 to 1, and my bookies are paying out on the first 5. sian |
