cut & paste:-
Villagers are mopping up after another deluge of water in the flood-prone Cornish village of Boscastle.

The main road was closed and some shops and properties in the centre were under about 3ft of water after Thursday's torrential downpours.

Fire crews who helped residents pump out the water said there had been no injuries and that a repeat of a devastating flood experienced three years ago

Boscastle was hit by floods again yesterday. I have spoken to friends at the Museum as I have had loads of calls and e mails to find out if all is OK. The problem was that the drains were blocked, but the new deeper culverts that have been put in since the last floods contained the water. There was some flooding at the end near the Wellie but all is OK. Some of the shops had a few inches or so of water in. Nothing like what happened before. This time it was the road at the top which was partly washed away but that is now open again with care. Teams have worked round the clock to make sure all is fine. Jack and Graham at the Museum send their thanks and blessings to all who have made contact with any of us to make sure they are all safe and well. There was some water outside the museum but as soon as they saw what was happening their swift action stopped any problems arising.

Yep as Cats said the flood defence culverts worked well, until they blocked with silt! This was coupled with a problem apparently with the amount of water that washed down the steep roads into Boscastle, and the road drains not being able to cope. The road outside here was like a river briefly and our new drainage system council built road side and Kevin and me built house side coped admirably with the deluge. Inside we stayed dry this time.
Cheers, Lucy

Glad to hear AOK at Boscastle, some Shiny Bums had a good meal and drink at the Cobweb on the way to the Bude-Stratton Festival.

Thanks for the memories, you folks over that way were all so welcoming. I tried to get back across to Bude for 10 June, but it was just a trip too far, I drove three and a half thousand miles in six weeks.

We have had floods over here too, but I'm back to Canberra winter weather of warm or cold days and minus 4 centigrade nights.

Love you all,
Chris

The first flood was a disaster; the second was nasty and costly. Right about now I'd be thinking about moving before number three happens...
