(I just heard the full sound clips of both Maher's and Coulter's comments) She was saying that apparently it is okay to wish that a political figure was killed by terrorists, but not okay to call them "faggots". |

He never did homework, he smarted off to teachers, he disrupted class (when he bothered to go) and he was failing. He wanted to be Mr. Always-Up-To-No-Good-But-Isn't-He-Funny-Though. He drove some of his teachers absolutely up the wall. He didn't care just so long as he got laughs. As long as he got attention, it didn't matter whether he graduated or not. One day, he was sitting in the back of bus and some kids back there started goofing off excessively. The busdriver called the VP principal over and said, "Those guys in the back are getting on my nerves." He went back, saw my bother sitting there, and started chewing him out something fierce. When my brother protested that he had done nothing, the VP grabbed him by the collar and yanked off the bus while the perpetrators went scot-free. When they got to the office, the VP thought my brother smelled like pot (he swears to this day he had not smoked any pot that day) and so he called the cops. The cops came down, threw against a wall and searched him, then they tore his wallet apart thinking he had a joint in it (which he did not). The cops couldn't prove anything so they left. The VP called our mother and she had to go down there and pick him up. He was so fucking mad when he got home. He was totally fuming, absolutely pissed off at the way they hassled for no fair reason. "THEY HAD NO RIGHT TO DO THAT TO ME!!!" he yelled. I told him that they may not have had the right but what did he expect with his reputation and history in that school? I told him that if he had stayed out of trouble and used his brain (he's actually very intelligent), none of that would have happened. I kept repeating it to him while he fumed until he broke down and admitted that he did bring all that on himself. He wanted a rep but didn't want to deal with the consequences of having that kind of rep. Well, Ann Coulter is like my brother. She wants a bad rep and she has one. Having achieved this, neither she nor her supporters can expect fairness in treatment. She wants to be judged by another standard but not face its consequences. Like my brother, she's not going to be given a break or the benefit of the doubt even if it is rightfully due her. She's gone too far with this thing now. She wants to be heard and to get attention and that is exactly what she is getting. My brother fortunately straightened himself out and began to apply his brain and grabbed himself just enough credits to graduate. Today, he is glad he learned those lessons in school rather than adulthood. That's something Ann never quite got the hang of. |

John, I get your point, and I think the attacks here on you are unjustified. But anything that looks like defense of this woman is bound to get that reaction. Her comments have much less to do with philosophical ideas, and much more to do with getting a reaction that pays off in her books, hence she says things that just are beyond what anyone should consider worthwhile. I have many friends that are way more conservative than I am, including you. None of them subscribe to this junk.
