Subject: RE: Music for the end of the world From: Graham and Jo Date: 08 Jul 07 - 08:06 AM Adrian May did a whole terrific CD based on the end of the world called '1999 1/2' (the end of the world review). There are lots of great songs and hearty jokes in some of them that would have you laughing through the last moments. |

Subject: RE: Music for the end of the world From: bobad Date: 08 Jul 07 - 08:36 PM Political Science Artist: Randy Newman Album: Sail Away No one likes us I don't know why. We may not be perfect But heaven knows we try. But all around even our old friends put us down. Let's drop the big one and see what happens. We give them money But are they grateful? No they're spiteful And they're hateful. They don't respect us so let's surprise them; We'll drop the big one and pulverize them. Now Asia's crowded And Europe's too old. Africa's far too hot, And Canada's too cold. And South America stole our name. Let's drop the big one; there'll be no one left to blame us. Bridge: We'll save Australia; Don't wanna hurt no kangaroo. We'll build an all-American amusement park there; They've got surfing, too. Well, boom goes London, And boom Paris. More room for you And more room for me. And every city the whole world round Will just be another American town. Oh, how peaceful it'll be; We'll set everybody free; You'll have Japanese kimonos, baby, There'll be Italian shoes for me. They all hate us anyhow, So let's drop the big one now. Let's drop the big one now. |

Subject: RE: Music for the end of the world From: JennyO Date: 09 Jul 07 - 01:01 PM A wide assortment come to mind. First one I thought of was Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. Or we could go down singing Isn't it Grand Boys. On a classical note, maybe Zadok the Priest or Te Deum by Berlioz, or as someone else mentioned, the 1812 Overture. |

Subject: RE: Music for the end of the world From: Burke Date: 09 Jul 07 - 06:18 PM The Great Day (As sung by Judge Falkerner of Al'a.) John P. Rees. in Sacred Harp, 1859. I've a long time heard that there will be a judgment, That there will be a judgment in that day. O, there will be a judgment in that day, O, sinner, where will you stand in that day? I've a long time heard that the sun will be darken'd, That the sun will be darken'd in that day. O the sun will be darken'd in that day-- Oh! sinner, where will you stand in that day? I've a long time heard that the moon will be bleeding, That the moon will be bleeding in that day. O the moon will be bleeding in that day, Oh! sinner, where will you stand in that day? I've a long time heard that the stars will be falling, That the stars will be falling in that day. O the stars will be falling in that day, Oh! sinner, where will you stand in that day? I've a long time heard that the earth will be burning, That the earth will be burning in that day. O the earth will be burning in that day, Oh! sinner, where will you stand in that day? |
Subject: RE: Music for the end of the world From: Kent Davis Date: 10 Jul 07 - 12:10 AM One of my early childhood favorites was "Very Last Day" from the album "In the Wind" by Peter, Paul, and Mary. I would appreciate any corrections to the lyrics. I have the song on an LP, but no longer have a turntable, so I can't check the words. Very Last Day Stookey/Yarrow (refrain) Everybody's gonna pray on the very last day. Oh, when they hear that bell ring the world away, Everybody's gonna pray to the heavens on the judgement day. Verse 1: Well, you can sing about the great King David, And you can preach about the wisdom of Saul, But the judgement falls on all mankind, When the trumpet sounds the call. All equal and the same, When the Lord He calls your name. Get ready, brother, for that day. (Refrain) Verse 2: Well, one day soon all men will stand, His Word will be heeded in all the land. Men shall know and men shall see, We all are brothers and we all are free. Mankind was made of clay, Each of us in the very same way, Get ready, brother, for that day. (Refrain) Verse 3: Oh well the law is given and the law is known, A tale is told and the seed is sown, From dust we came; into dust we'll go, You know the Lord once told us so. Each brother take His hand, Heed the meaning of the Lord's command. Get ready, brother, for that day. (Refrain) |
