Subject: BS: Will Homer ring it? From: BanjoRay Date: 20 Jul 07 - 08:46 AM This came out a few days ago, it's a bit of Late News I suppose. I think it ought to stay as a permanent feature, despite the fuss the local pagans are making - Homer's every bit as important an Icon as the giant (IMHO) Ray |
Subject: RE: BS: Will Homer ring it? From: Paco Rabanne Date: 20 Jul 07 - 09:57 AM That is brilliant Ray. The Simpsons are the best thing on the telly. |
Subject: RE: BS: Will Homer ring it? From: The Walrus Date: 20 Jul 07 - 02:21 PM At least the pagans are taking it better than some might - they haven't declared a fatwah with a reward for the person who turns Matt Groenig into a frog. |
Subject: RE: BS: Will Homer ring it? From: GUEST,Seiri Omaar Date: 20 Jul 07 - 02:27 PM A permanent fixture? He's not exactly a positive representation of the human male, and it's nothing more than an advertisement. I don't like that they've done it (just another sign of how obsessed society is with the television and media) but I think the pagans are being a little bit extreme (read: lacking a sense of humour) with their objections. (Please note, I do actually like the Simpsons):) Cheers, Seiri. |

Subject: RE: BS: Will Homer ring it? From: skipy Date: 20 Jul 07 - 02:59 PM Giok, I'd rather watch football than the Simpson & that's really saying something! Pass me some pins, I want to stick them in my eyes! Skipy |
Subject: RE: BS: Will Homer ring it? From: Liz the Squeak Date: 20 Jul 07 - 03:03 PM About 20 years ago, there was a plan to put a female icon on the opposite hill, with an outline of Marilyn Munroe in the famous 'skirt blowing up round her armpits' silhouette. It was quashed on grounds of taste, rather than anything else - that and the surrounding area is protected as an area of outstanding natural beauty. The only way they got permission to put Homer up there was on condition he was bio-degradable and washed away after the first rain. Actually, with the weather we've been having recently, I'm surprised it lasted long enough to take a photo. I'm not a pagan, but I don't like it either. Mind you, the way the Giant looks like he's going to smack Homer on the head with his club (the one in his hand... sheesh!) is quite amusing! LTS |
Subject: RE: BS: Will Homer ring it? From: skipy Date: 20 Jul 07 - 04:31 PM So the pagans are responsible for my 8 min. drive home taking 1hr 45 are they! Skipy |
Subject: RE: BS: Will Homer ring it? From: Cluin Date: 20 Jul 07 - 04:38 PM I think it's funny as hell. And a bit sad, too. But that doesn't detract from the funny. |
Subject: RE: BS: Will Homer ring it? From: Folkiedave Date: 20 Jul 07 - 04:45 PM I would have thought today was a good test to see if the paint was in fact bio-degradable. |
Subject: RE: BS: Will Homer ring it? From: RangerSteve Date: 20 Jul 07 - 05:54 PM So if I perform some kind of Wiccan ceremony in front of the Homer, will I receive donuts? |
Subject: RE: BS: Will Homer ring it? From: Liz the Squeak Date: 20 Jul 07 - 08:21 PM No, but your hair will fall out and your belly spread over your belt. You'll also lose a couple of fingers but on the good side, your IQ will shoot up! (Joking!!!) LTS |
Subject: RE: BS: Will Homer ring it? From: Joe Offer Date: 20 Jul 07 - 11:54 PM Well, the hair and belly thing already happened to me, so I guess I have nothing more to worry about.... |
Subject: RE: BS: Will Homer ring it? From: Cluin Date: 21 Jul 07 - 02:55 PM `Cept for that unnatural affinity for doughnuts. |
