Subject: Lyr Add: Bottle in the Car From: retrancer Date: 18 Aug 07 - 08:10 PM Okies, I worked on this for like six months so pls let me know what the catters think of this country-western type tune.... kinda CFG The road outside leads right up to this bar It's why I'm standing right here where you are I've seen a million miles Of concrete, gravel and tar; And babe, I've got a bottle in th car. Babe I got a bottle in the car the motel where I'm at it ain't that far tomorrow we'll both have just one more scar and babe i got a bottle in the car I'll tell you you're pretty, and you'll lie to me Then we'll lie together; in our own agonies and the sun will rise harshly, and we'll both pretend that out on the highway, we'll meet again. Babe I got a bottle in the car It'll numb me up just enough, to handle one more scar I don't know and you don't care, who the hell we are Babe I got a bottle in the car. Yah babe I got a bottle in the car. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Bottle in the Car From: Charley Noble Date: 19 Aug 07 - 12:53 PM jstarwolf- Well, it's certainly not sentimerntal claptrap. But you do need to be about 60 to bring it off, or at least a dissipated 30! What are your expectations? Cheerily, Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Bottle in the Car From: retrancer Date: 20 Aug 07 - 09:07 PM thanks charley - close, high mileage and 49. no expectations (can't you tell LOL) anyway, the title came first and i've been kicking it around awile when I think about it. I'll record it on one of my next home made indie cd's. |
Subject: Lyr Add: COUNTRY SQUALL (Willie P. Bennett) From: Charley Noble Date: 20 Aug 07 - 09:18 PM jstarwolf- If you're seriously into this kind of music you might try this one from Willie P. Bennet: COUNTRY SQUALL (By Willie P. Bennett © with some minor word changes through the years by Charlie Ipcar) Baby, if I'd been a gambler, I'd have turned out a different way; But lately, everywhere I go, It's the same highway; And if I were born some time else This could be a different day; Like the rise and fall of a country squall, Getting' ready to fade away. Sometimes I feel like I should be in a different place, With somebody else's mind And somebody else's face; 'Cause lately, I've been feelin' low, With nothing to do and no place to go; Like the rise and fall of a country squall, Getting' ready to fade away. Leanin' on a birch tree, Starin' up at a winter sky; Listenin' to the black birds calling, There's no tears left to cry; And no reasons that I can find Why I should run this race; Like the rise and fall of a country squall, Getting' ready to fade away. I've been haunted by this song for years but have never dared sing it! Cheerily, Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Bottle in the Car From: retrancer Date: 20 Aug 07 - 10:24 PM yah charley, that is my style alright! thank you i will check out the author as well! One odd thing, i dont usually associate squalls with "country" weather, they seem more nautical - squalls. your thoughts? |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Bottle in the Car From: Charley Noble Date: 21 Aug 07 - 09:15 AM jstarwolf- I believe that Willie T. Bennett is from the Great Plains of Canada. I'm too lazy to check. I think you'll find that folks who grew up on the great plains and prairies share some similar imagery with nautical denizens. In both cases you have great expanses and if a change in weather is approaching it can be tracked over a long time period. Why there were even prairie schooners! Cheerily, Charley Noble |

Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Bottle in the Car From: Jeri Date: 15 Mar 08 - 09:22 AM Hi, jstar. I transferred this into your older thread. You can click on your name in the 'From' space in any post of yours to get a list of your posts. As to the song, it might work in country music. I can imagine the video: stark black and white, early morning hours, the scene mainly lit by the flashing lights illuminating the bits of chrome and glass strewn over the road and maybe a couple of chalk outlines. Of course, that hints at a traffic accident and leaves the gun completely out of the picture, but that might be a whole different story line. I hear the song and want to know what happened and if any of the police cars had a vid cam. Of course, I say 'country' because bad decisions can make popular music. Take, "That I dug my key into the side of hisfor example |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Bottle in the Car From: retrancer Date: 15 Mar 08 - 09:29 AM thanks Jeri - love the imagery you created - yah i did it as a honky tonk country song. what happened is I was thinking about starting to date again and was trying to remember what dating was like, one thing i remembered was being troo broke to afford club alcohol so we always took some with us to have more that was cheap!!!!!!! |
Subject: RE: Review: Bottle in the Car From: Bert Date: 15 Mar 08 - 10:10 AM Good song jstarwolf. |
Subject: RE: Review: Bottle in the Car From: Murray MacLeod Date: 15 Mar 08 - 10:21 AM I have to confess myself slightly bemused by the line: "next to my pistol and a fresh box of lies" what would a "box of lies" be ? Cigarettes ? Chocolates ? Condoms? I think we should be told ... |
Subject: RE: Review: Bottle in the Car From: Jeri Date: 15 Mar 08 - 10:24 AM I do have one more comment: the line Then we'll lie with each other in our own agonies makes me wonder, what's the point? I mean, you're trying to forget agony, no? If the people in the song are going to be that self-destructive, there has to be some reason they do it. |
Subject: RE: Review: Bottle in the Car From: retrancer Date: 15 Mar 08 - 11:47 AM aweswome comments, thank you all. OK, box of lies, sort of a metaphor, the guy tells so many lies he might as well buy them by the box. He's in a new place, this new bar that the road brought him to and so he's gonna open a new box of lies maybe about what he does, his name, where he's from, .... the agony, well, its just the pointlessnes that is the point, this guy and whoever he picks up are pretty tortured and miserable people and what they are doing actually digs them in deeper - one more scar... Some people think I write depressing songs!!!!! Thanks for the interesting questions, comments and compliments!!! |
Subject: RE: Review: Bottle in the Car From: Murray MacLeod Date: 15 Mar 08 - 04:29 PM I've already got the tune worked out for this, if retrancer is interested I will post the chords and he can tell me if I am in the ballpark. just one thing, the way I hear it, you have to lose the "Aw" at the beginning of the last chorus line, otherwise it doesn't scan right |
Subject: RE: Review: Bottle in the Car From: retrancer Date: 15 Mar 08 - 04:51 PM Murray, quite the compliment that someone thought enough to work something up, would love to see it - I did it honky tonk in CFG with a few alternate chord changes. the link kind of got lost above when the thread was condensed. http://www.mediamax.com/jstarwolf/Hosted/bottles.mp3 So lets see what you did with it please!!!! And thanks again Oh I just asked Sheryl Crow for a date on myspace, I'll let you guys know how that goes. Penelope Cruz is on the list too! |
Subject: RE: Review: Bottle in the Car From: retrancer Date: 15 Mar 08 - 05:49 PM another thought, hand gun or pistol, maybe another name, what does a thug call it these days, a heater is what bogey called em |
