I am not comfortable giving her name here, but a popular Portland singer is in the hospital having had a stroke. They say it is mild but her speech is affected (hopefully that and her great singing will recover). If you need more information, you can email me at [e-mail]. I do not have a lot of details. mg

First, this thread really needs to be in the "Music" section!

Beyond that, Mary, is there a reason why you're not letting everyone know who this incredibly talented, very popular Pacific Northwest singer is?

(That's an honest question, not a reprimand.)

Those who are not familiar with this woman's music are really missing out on a gold mine!

Meanwhile, my prayers go out for her speedy and full recovery.

I did talk to Kathleen Ingerson tonight, but she had no new info beyond what went out in the PFS email (except that they have found a good placement for "M").   I'll keep you posted, and I trust you will do likewise, if there's more to be learned.

This woman is, indeed, a treasure in the folk music world.

It may be helpful to note that speech and singing are "housed" separately in the brain, and small strokes affecting speech are very unlikely to also affect song.

Yes, she might not be happy, but people outside Portland were very slow to get the news,and we have had some PMs. At this point there are some practical things that people are doing to help her behind the scenes.

I would be interested in just a generic update on how strokes can affect speech but not singing. I had heard this too...mg

All of these mysteries from the Pacific Northwest lately.

I can find names of singers in the Portland newspaper online, but no mention of any hospital stays. She hasn't turned up as a news story, whoever she is.
