Thanks everyone.! Annie sprang a surprise party on me, telling me it was a normal "session" at the Cross Keys, Wallingford. Normal my arse !! She had managed to track down two members of a band I played in, "The Mariners ", back in the early 70s in Gosport------I had not seen either of them ( Don McKenzie and Christine Poulter ( Place ) ) for 34 years !!She also invited my brother, Clifford, whom I only met for the first time a few months ago, so it was all quite ----well, surprising !! And emotional. Musical diversions were provided by such luminaries as George Papavgeris , Bill McKinnon,Sara Daniels, Amanda Diamond & Eddie Wheaton ,Paul Hancock, Karen Dorling (Hemmingham ), and the stately Dick Frost, whilst underpinning the whole shebang on a very restrained electric bass was ,as usual, Dave Newson. There were two cakes,a superb buffet,and I got more cards and presents than I have had at a birthday for about 30 years !! Wonderful !! Since TODAY is my ACTUAL birthday, I must go through it all again at the Herschel Arms in Slough tonight, which I fear will necessitate the purchase of a bottle or two of Jamesons !! Drat !!
