Subject: Peace/Bruce Murdoch - Interesting bio From: Big Mick Date: 13 Oct 07 - 03:18 PM I remember when I first came to Mudcat, shortly after its creation. I used to be knocked out by the folks that were here and using "handles". Years later, I am still knocked out by this. Sometimes, in the heat of debate of issues, we fail to remember that we are dealing with real folks, and that many of them were making a difference on the folk scene when others were just wishing they could. Such is the case with our own Peace/Bruce Murdoch. I found this short bio, and just felt like you folks needed to see it. I love the pictures of Bruce, now and then. Thanks to Beer/Adrien, Bruce came out of his cave and started to sing again. I cannot wait for that new CD, I am looking forward to it with great anticipation. What the hell is it with Canada????? Is it the water???? That country has produced an amazing bunch of singers, and songwriters. I love the place. Bruce, thanks for coming out into the musical sun again. The place looks better with you around. All the best, Mick |

He's still Bruce Murdoch, if you get my drift...still a nice, talented, guy who actually cares about people. And he actually eats with a fork and everything, even though he does live on the Scenic Route To Alaska. Sheesh. |

Subject: RE: Peace/Bruce Murdoch - Interesting bio From: Peace Date: 17 Oct 07 - 11:02 AM Hi, all. Thank you for so many kind remarks. I am humbled. The new material is gonna get out somehow. I have it in mind to do a CD and make enough copies to get to stations that play accoustic stuff. I'd initially considered a CD that used backup--guitars, a few songs with pipes, etc. But it's just too complicated for me. I think the songs will stand alone for the most part, and when I can finally crack the bridge on the current song, I will gladly admit to having satisfied myself with a song I wrote. It will be too 'rock' for most people (you can take the boy out of the country but . . .) who are folk oriented, and too folk for people who are rock oriented, but so far it's workin' just fine for this old redneck. I am hoping to have that song on Youtube early in 2008. Have to see about that. But y'all will be first to know. C Ham had started a similar thread and I thank him for that. I am the one who requested it be closed because I have an aversion to threads that laud an individual, even if that guy's me. But when I came back after a call out, here was this thread started by Mick and there were already over half a dozen posts to it, and they were from people I like very much, so I then felt it would be churlish to ask that this too be deleted. The 'baptism of fire' for me on this gig is getting on the stage. If I can do that, the rest is gonna fly. The new song adds a dimension to songwriting that I haven't explored to my satisfaction, and that's part of why I am having such a bear of a time with it. Decisions about vocal phrasings and strum/phrasing timings, etc. And I can't make up my mind what rhythm I want to go with: it works slow or faster than slow, and the strums remind me of Jose Feliciano in some of the counter rhythms and Ry cooder in other areas (although I am not suggesting that I have the skills of either). There are so many good friends who've posted here and I thank you all very much. But maybe it's time to let it go, OK? Thank you very very much. |
