Saturday AM. As designated driver I was on Coke and coffee and then couldn't sleep. Up until 2AM.

Great night at the Press Room - crowded and noisy. Micca offered Gladiator, The hash My Father Scored and Rolling Home. Carole and Jacqui held all spell bound with Nancy Spain (I thought she was a Swain). Carole was in on some of the celtic jamming with her guitar as well.

We were sorry to see Linn and Allison leave so early. But understood.

We are watching one of thew worst movies ever made - Manticore with Donald Sutherland and Jamie Lee Curtiss. Laughable horror.

And Micca got his first (and I susperct last) taste of Velveeta. heh heh

Sorry I had to leave the Press Room session early last night -- it had a higher proportion of Mudcatters attending than usual. And from distances, too.

Sinsull and Jacqui and Carol and Micca and Animaterra, not to mention regulars like Barry Finn, Curmudgeon and me. I think Jeri's recent travel exertions had her cocooning.

He's not a Mudcatter, but I spotted my dentist across the room -- though we've discussed folk music (with his hands and tools in my mouth) often, he's never shown up at the Press Room during a session before.

And though highly populated, it was a good session -- even got to hear some of the shyer or less muscular voices.

I spent the main part of the day ferrying Micca and the blonde around to do some retail therapy. They flirted so outrageously in Tim Hortons that I thought about leaving them there while I went shopping.

We're just back chez Morse, having a bit of a breather before SINSULL arrives to take us all to the Press Room.

For those who wondered if my shy and retiring side was going to be formost this year. As a host site for First Night Montclair I headed over to church as a dutiful volunteer and as the New Year came close I found myself dancing with Sweet Georgia Brown -- "One of the Last Red Hot Mommas" to Roll it on the River. See I don't do things at Getaway I wouldn't do in church..... Okay I set the camera to stills so Jarius couldn't video when I went up.. but aside from that...

My unedited photos and video clips are here My New Year The Tones of Joy added some wonderful harmonies. And Searson from Ontario introduced me to a new generation of fiddlers and steppers...

PS Did I mention that the rectory kept open house to "suppliment" the festivities?

What I omitted to mention in my previous post (due to being "tired and emotional") was the entertainment!! Kendall, Tom and Linn all in top form delighted us with their songs and stories, Carol and Jacqui singing as a duet was wonderful(especially on "Nancy Spain")!! and Carol has an excellent voice and was a joy to hear in several other solo songs too, all in all a real good evening of song and friendship,

Kat and all you others we ARE and were togeter tonight, it is the wonderful thing about the Mudcat community to which we all belong, I felt the strong bond between us all and that you were all at least spiritually, here in Maine with us.
We started ,part way through dinner, with joining Chance and everyone singing " Let the circle be unbroken, then we went on to sing and enjoy the company for the rest of the evening with numerous phone calls from folks who wished they could be with us and share the New Year all in all a classic example of all belonging and all round togetherness. My profound and grateful thanks to SINSULL, Jacqui, and all the others that made this trip so wonderful and enjoyable,
My Thanks and appreciation and Happy New Year to everyone who shared it with us.

This is Charmion, actually, ticking away on Edmund's new laptop --

I finally feel pretty good today, and not coughing up a lung for the first time in a fortnight. The cassoulet is in the oven and Edmund is out buying salad greens and renting movies suitable for New Year's Eve viewing -- The Titfield Thunderbolt, with Stanley Holloway, and Waterloo, with a Russian director and Rod Steiger as Napoleon.

I wish you all the best New Year ever. With any luck we'll be down Portland way some time in the spring, and I have almost convinced myself that the Mystic Seaport festival would be a good time even for people who aren't crazy about sea shanteys ...

Our fair city of Ottawa has promised fireworks at midnight, but it's rather a lot of degrees below zero Celsius and getting colder. You know you're terminally middle-aged when inclement weather can keep you away from fireworks.

Micca always brings sunshine and spontaneous surprises. Last night I came home to a Christmas Dinner with Jacqui, Kendall Carole, Micca and me. Christmas Crrackers (no hats0 and pudding, turkey with all the trimmings, some drink was taken, some songs were sung.

Micca and I have a lovely quiet supper at JP Thornton's new bar & Grill. Neat little place although instead of jazz they had some crappy rock music on when we first came in. It got turned off later. Poor, sheltered man had never seen a short rib. He is still convinced it came from a brontosaurus. LOL.

Bad news - Edmund and Charmion can't make the drive. Actually Charmion can't. Bronchitis. Given the last two months I aam grateful she is keeping her distance. But they will be missed.

Micca, if you try to call, our Vonage isn't working in a consistent manner, i.e. not for shite! I have a cellphone being delivered on Wed. SAME number as the home phone, no problem.
