So, inspired the thread name game, what is it that makes a person prefer to be sexually submissive?    Various possibilities are among common explanations: -

1. Attachment to a dominant parent figure - so that submission becomes equated with being loved.

2. Guilt. If sex is condemned, then it can only be best enjoyed if one is absolved from responsiblity ie if the other sexual partner is in charge and takes the "blame".

3. Laziness. Self explanantory really.

4. Irresponsibility or fear of failure. If one is the bottom or sub then one has no responsibility for the sexual enjoment of one's partner, for that is in their hands.

Lumping together masochism and submission to some extent:

5. Thrill-seeking, i.e., the endorphin rush that follows pain. I suspect there are some biophysical reasons that people have different pain thresholds, and different abilities to enjoy endorphins.

6. Desire to be the centre of somebody's focused attention.

7. Eagerness to please a partner.

8. Many SM acts have a lower chance of disease transmission or of emotional attachment than regular sex. So SM can be used as a way of having casual sexual contact without the emotional or infectious risks of sleeping around.

When people go to horror movies or get onto roller coasters, it's because they find it thrilling to experience feelings/sensations that would be very dangerous and undesirable in real life. I think SM is much the same thing... a safe and temporary way to explore intense feelings.

The being absolved of responsibility if only for a short time. I.E. just doing what you're told to, instead of being the one who has to do the telling.

Then there may be the alleged resemblance of the hue of a spanked bottom to a sexual flush...

However jolly an SM relationship may be, is surely isn't a sexual relationship.
