Subject: BS: IPCC FAR IV: The Global Warming Reports From: JohnInKansas Date: 16 Nov 07 - 05:36 AM The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has been established by WMO and UNEP to assess scientific, technical and socio- economic information relevant for the understanding of climate change, its potential impacts and options for adaptation and mitigation. It is currently finalizing its Fourth Assessment Report "Climate Change 2007", also referred to as AR4. The reports by the three Working Groups provide a comprehensive and up-to-date assessment of the current state of knowledge on climate change. The Synthesis Report integrates the information around six topic areas. More The first three (of four) parts of the Fourth Assessment Report on Climate change apparently are available in book form, but I didn't find information on how to order them, and expect that printed copies would be more expensive than my time to download them. I don't believe that links to the full reports have appeared in one place here at mudcat, so as a public service ....: IPCC WG1 AR4 Report now has posted the complete report of Working Group I. All files are .pdf. My download was 19 Chapters/Appendices/Indexes at a total of approximately 200 MB. Working Group I reports on the Physical Science basis for the assessment of Climate Change. Working Group II Report now has posted the complete report of Working Group II. All files are .pdf. My download was 32 separate items, but was somewhat smaller at 45 MB. Working Group II reports on the Impacts, Adaptation, and Vulnerabilities assessment of Climate Change Working Group III Report now has posted the complete report of Working Group III. All files are .pdf. My download was 20 items at 106 MB. Working Group III reports on Mitigation of Climate Change effects. This is the Fourth Assessment Report (FAR IV) produced by this international group. The Fourth Report in this FAR IV will be a "wrap up" intended to tie together the conclusions and recommendations of the above three parts. Some preliminary information is available at the IPCC home site, but this particular section is still under review and has not been posted at this time. Each of the four reports includes a "Summary for Policymakers," generally appearing at the above sites, for the first three reports, as the "spm.pdf." This SPM is subject to review and some editing by affected/participating government leaders, and the other parts of each report have been withheld until "finalizing" of the SPM. The draft SPM for the Fourth report is in final finishing, and the full Fourth Part of FAR IV should be released within the next month or so. There have been some complaints that the "government reviews" of the SPM have "politicised" some of the conclusions. Remaining parts of the reports have been peer reviewed by scientists and academicians; but should be relatively little affected by political agenda. Recommended reading for those who don't believe. Those willing to accept the conclusions and recommendations in the SPM sections may want to skip some of the details, as they do form a very large, and not easily digested, bunch of information. Subject: RE: BS: IPCC FAR IV: The Global Warming Reports From: JohnInKansas Date: 16 Nov 07 - 08:14 PM Donuel - I believe too, but being mildly AR I downloaded them anyway. With my connection, which peaks at about 5 KB/sec and drops to around 2 when things are busy, it was about a three-day download. Of course it did give me lots of time to read one while the next one came through the pipe. John |
Subject: RE: BS: IPCC FAR IV: The Global Warming Reports From: JohnInKansas Date: 18 Nov 07 - 12:20 AM The Summary for Policymakers from Committee IV has been posted, but is still a "draft" version. Reviews and approvals by participating goverments has been reported as "completed," but final formatting and chelspecking remains before the SPM4 is released in final form. The supporting technical background report from Committee IV still hasn't appeared. The "tech" information that is expected from Committee IV is not intended to include any new data; but should show how the previous 3 committee reports fit together. The draft "wrap-up" report contains quite a lot of optimistic comment about what can be done to mitigate what's about to happen, but it's hard to be very optimisitc since most of what has to be done depends on "national and international policy makers" - i.e. politicians. Stay tuned, and keep eyes open. John |
Subject: RE: BS: IPCC FAR IV: The Global Warming Reports From: The Badger Date: 18 Nov 07 - 08:26 PM Of equal interest are the comments of the majority of "experts" who where either not included or declined to be included in this report - and the fact that the planet has been cooling for the past ten years or so. Ooops! |
Subject: RE: BS: IPCC FAR IV: The Global Warming Reports From: JohnInKansas Date: 18 Nov 07 - 08:48 PM Obviously, Badger, you have not read all 3,000 pages of the reports (or even looked at the first dozen charts). It is quite thoroughly documented that the earth as a whole has not been cooling for the past ten years, although a time span of ten years is rather insignificant in what's going on now so it's really not much of an argument. Subject: RE: BS: IPCC FAR IV: The Global Warming Reports From: catspaw49 Date: 18 Nov 07 - 09:46 PM Obviously John you are fucked up!!! You have missed the research done by others like Badger who sadly cannot substantiate their claims as the research data was lost in the destruction of WTC 7 when it was blown with pre-set charges delivered by aliens on leave from Roswell from their stash behind the Grassy Knoll in Dallas and.............. Subject: RE: BS: IPCC FAR IV: The Global Warming Reports From: JohnInKansas Date: 28 Nov 07 - 08:38 AM Our Greenies may be interested in the Human Development Report 2007/2008 just issued assessing impacts of climate change on human populations. The above link is to the site where a variety of summaries, press packages, and other "condensed" versions can be accessed. (There are also links to prior year reports by this committee.) While I'd suggest a look at what's available, the current report "summary" (894 KB, 31 pages, .pdf) might be easiest reading for those who want a quick look. (I'd suggest right-click and "Save Target" for both of the following): http://hdr.undp.org/en/media/hdr_20072008_summary_english.pdf Those who think this might be a topic of discussion before the next report comes out may want the whole thing, although reading it all to find the appropriate "pithy quotes" may be a chore. The full report (12 MB, 499 pages, .pdf) can be downloaded from: http://hdr.undp.org/en/media/hdr_20072008_en_complete.pdf John |
