If any 'catter is around Manchester on Thursday 6th December an you have a free hour between 1-00 and 2-00 in the afternoon then Chris Harvey and myself are performing a selection of Manchester Ballads in the exhibition celebrating 150 years of the Manchester Arts and Treasures exhibition of 1857. One of the ballads was dedicated to the exhibition which is why we were asked to do this concert.

There is a listening post at the gallery where you can hear the ballad and it is also featured on the Gallery website HERE

Hopefully see one or two of you there

Cheers
Mark

Mark and Chris have done a fine job making these old broadsides into songs that sound like they were meant to be sung. Should be a good event.

The Manchester Evening News has this down for tomorrow, Sunday 2 December.

Is that an extra or a mistake?

People talk of the time Dylan went electric and when the Sex Pistols played the Free Trade Hall and how it changed the face of music in Manchester.

Apparently 12,000 watched the Sex Pistols even though only 312 were present on the night.

I am sure today's performance by Mark and Chris will join, and in the end over-shadow, the other two. I believe the Art Gallery is already organising tours to show where Mark and Chris sat on the afternoon of the 5th!

Thanks a lot it was excellent!

Well that's very kind of you to say that Les (even if it was the 6th not the 5th!).

Good to see a few 'catters there as well as one or two other familiar faces. We had about 40/50 people sat or stood round listening to the Ballads for an hour in the Arts and Treasures exhibition.

Thanks to everybody for coming along and I hope you all enjoyed the performance. Chris and I certainly enjoyed performing for you.

Cheers
Mark

Yes it was the 6th - this is just how rock n roll myths get generated!

Cheers and thanks again

I really enjoyed the show and from the looks of audience members, I wasn't the only one (although they were a bit perplexed when Sue and I joined in the choruses)! One woman asked us if folk music still existed...
Keep up the missionary work!
