Subject: RE: Season's Greetings From: Sorcha Date: 15 Dec 07 - 10:09 PM Harrrummmppphhh. I 'suppose' I should get ALL upset thay you have wished 'Seasons Greetings' AND 'Happy Holidays' instead of....... MERRY CHRISTMAS! No, of course I won't and I wish them right back at you, but there was a Letter to the Editor in our local newspaper last year by one of our local Pastors strongly objecting to and being offended by the sign (in Jewish BLUE no less) over the highway here that says HAPPY HOLIDAYS instead of Merry Christmas. I bit my tongue (and pen) and didn't respond. So, Happy Holidays and Seasons Greetings to EVERYBODY! Bah Humbug! |

Subject: RE: Season's Greetings From: Donuel Date: 16 Dec 07 - 10:13 AM Wishing my neighbor on the street "happy holidays" has been greeted by a growled "Same to you". So in the compromise of not being too energetic or emphatic in wishing you good cheer... I half heartedly extend a tepid mild mannered acknowledgment of your existence at this time of year, whether you are merry, happy, somewhat bemused, conflicted by rightious bigotry or deeply depressed. |

Subject: RE: Season's Greetings From: GUEST,Neil D Date: 17 Dec 07 - 01:04 PM Merry Christmas Happy Hannakuh Have a cool Yule If nothing else, enjoy the day off from work. |
Subject: RE: Season's Greetings From: PoppaGator Date: 17 Dec 07 - 04:23 PM Despite being generally secular and supportive of pluralism, and despite a personal interest in "Yule" as an even-more ancient celebration than the Christian celebration, I prefer to say "Merry Christmas." Just for the sake of simplicity and tradition. I hate that, to some, this may tend to classify me as some kind of militant and intolerant fundamentalist. To those who shrink with horror at mention of the supposedly-sectarian "C word," let me hasten to point out that all of the very commercial and throughly non-religious money-spending frenzy currently underway is generally konwn as "Christmas Shopping." Not "Seasonal Shopping," not even "Holidays Shopping." So there! Well, I suppose I can compromise: "Merry Xmas, everyone!" |

Subject: RE: Season's Greetings From: dick greenhaus Date: 20 Dec 07 - 12:05 AM Back in the late 40s, one could hear: "Happy non-sectarian mid-year recess" To which I can only respond "Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night." |
