While reading the thread on Diamonds & Rust, Mudcatters commenting on Dylan Fashion trends (cufflinks or no cufflinks, yikes!), I was struck by Amos' comment "I was there at the 63-64 show when Dylan plugged in, etc". This flicked a switch (new thread or old news) -

I'd like to hear comments from Mudcatters on the Newport '62 show from folks that were there. To this day, I hold dear to the program I won in the Mudcat Auction (with a note from Kytrad) featuring many artists I have stayed close to over Time.

As I may have mentioned before, the program featured Doc Boggs doing 'Oh Death' and the Stanley brothers doing 'Man of Constant Sorrow'. Some 40 years later, Ralph Stanley would win a Grammy for covering the Doc Boggs tune.

This could be a lively thread & with any luck, catch up to the 'Little Known Folksingers' conversation, last seen headed to 725 entries!

Have fun & let's hear from our archivists, performers and audience.

Cheers
voyager

I don't believe Dylan plugged in at Newport until '65

I wasn't there, but I love my LP (it's the first one) from 1965. It's rough & raw. There is even some drama: Eric von Schmidt being dissuaded somehow from singing the line that rhymes with "Load it down in front", and Mel Lyman faded out from playing "Rock of Ages" in a trance (did he ever stop?).
