I've just seen on the BBC news that Roy Scheider passed away, aged 75, after a long illness. RIP Roy.

So sorry to read it. Loved him in All That Jazz. R.I.P. indeed.

A good actor who never achieved his full potential.

He's gone to find the bigger boat.

Very sad.......I thought he was a superb actor and know he was well respected by his peers. I don't remember anything I didn't enjoy about his various roles as he always seemed very believable no matter what the part.

Me, too, Spaw. I really respected him as an actor. Remember him in Klute and French Connection? I never saw Jaws!

I thought he was the dad in a made for tv movie about an Air Force dad who was really tough on his sons and uncommunicative. I can't remember the name of it, but it was one of the most powerful performances I've ever seen. I can't remember if it was him and don't see it at WIKI.

RIP, Mr. Scheider, thanks for sharing.

Kat - The movie you described sounds a lot like "The Great Santini" which starred Robert Duvall.

My favorite forgotten Roy Scheider movie was called "Sorcerer". Directed by William Freidken - a remake of the French movie "The Wages of Sin".

Multiple myeloma. It's a cancer of the blood plasma, I think.

Ah, that's who it was, Wesley, thanks. It was an incredible film, imo. I"ll have to see if netflix has the Sorcerer.

I had to have Barnes and Noble order it for me. Tangerine Dream does the soundtrack. Cheezy '80's era synth music. But it fit.

Hopefuly not too disrespectful on an obit thread...

We always made the joke about the three 'R.S.-es' in Jaws. Roy Scheider, Robert Shaw and...

Wait for it...

Rubber Shark.

Mr Scheider certainly seemed the most professional of the three and I think his demise will be a sad loss to the film industry as well as his friends and family.

Anyone remember Shaw's rendition of 'Spanish Ladies' in Jaws as well btw?

Dave

This was no boating accident....

'Jaws' is one of my all-time favorites and I just love Roy Scheider and Robert Shaw in this movie. I was very sad to read the news of his death.
