Subject: RE: Obit: Roy Scheider From: catspaw49 Date: 11 Feb 08 - 08:58 AM Very sad.......I thought he was a superb actor and know he was well respected by his peers. I don't remember anything I didn't enjoy about his various roles as he always seemed very believable no matter what the part. Spaw |
Subject: RE: Obit: Roy Scheider From: katlaughing Date: 11 Feb 08 - 10:44 AM Me, too, Spaw. I really respected him as an actor. Remember him in Klute and French Connection? I never saw Jaws! I thought he was the dad in a made for tv movie about an Air Force dad who was really tough on his sons and uncommunicative. I can't remember the name of it, but it was one of the most powerful performances I've ever seen. I can't remember if it was him and don't see it at WIKI. RIP, Mr. Scheider, thanks for sharing. |

Subject: RE: Obit: Roy Scheider From: Wesley S Date: 11 Feb 08 - 01:29 PM Kat - The movie you described sounds a lot like "The Great Santini" which starred Robert Duvall. My favorite forgotten Roy Scheider movie was called "Sorcerer". Directed by William Freidken - a remake of the French movie "The Wages of Sin". |
Subject: RE: Obit: Roy Scheider From: Mrrzy Date: 11 Feb 08 - 01:44 PM Multiple myeloma. It's a cancer of the blood plasma, I think. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Roy Scheider From: katlaughing Date: 11 Feb 08 - 02:10 PM Ah, that's who it was, Wesley, thanks. It was an incredible film, imo. I"ll have to see if netflix has the Sorcerer. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Roy Scheider From: Wesley S Date: 11 Feb 08 - 02:14 PM I had to have Barnes and Noble order it for me. Tangerine Dream does the soundtrack. Cheezy '80's era synth music. But it fit. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Roy Scheider From: Dave the Gnome Date: 11 Feb 08 - 02:48 PM Hopefuly not too disrespectful on an obit thread... We always made the joke about the three 'R.S.-es' in Jaws. Roy Scheider, Robert Shaw and... Wait for it... Rubber Shark. Mr Scheider certainly seemed the most professional of the three and I think his demise will be a sad loss to the film industry as well as his friends and family. Anyone remember Shaw's rendition of 'Spanish Ladies' in Jaws as well btw? Dave |
Subject: RE: Obit: Roy Scheider From: katlaughing Date: 11 Feb 08 - 04:41 PM I just put it in our queue at netflix. Glad they had it, thanks, Wesley. |
