My wife Ann is going to Bangalore India for 6 weeks in April/May (work related). Have any Catters been there? know of this city? If so, any suggestions of interesting sites to see, things to beware of etc, etc. would be appreciated.

All I know about Bangalore is that there are lots of people there working in call centres and helplines swerving consumers in England. I believe sometimes they are supposed to keep up on what's happening over here, what's the weather like and so forth, so they can make callers think they are talking to someone a bit closer to home.

This suggests that there should be a good few people in Bangalore who will be easy to talk to - and probably on the Internet.

Bangalore is a big city, with all of the advantages and disadvantages.
It is sometimes called Silicon Valley East.
A fellow I knew worked there for a while, in the computer industry.

Apparently much of interest in the city.
English-speakers common.

Here's a cut and paste from a letter between friends of mine, all of it Bangalore related:

Shiok is the Thai fusion place I said was started by a UI-designer
turned chef. Its in Indiranagar. His name is Madhu Menon. Great
cocktails.

The Chinese place is called Nanking and is in the Sigma mall. Make
sure Baba Ling is there (the owner). Ask for the kitchen soup (the
one they keep simmering for the workers).

Pubs in B'lore...well I already told you the Windsor is the "geek
pub". I hang out with a lot of Open Source folks, though...so your
mileage may vary.

I have been to Bangalore but can't say I know it well as I really only passed through a couple of times. It's a sizable city and there is certainly a lot to see. I know Mysore better which is a few hours drive (faster by train) to the south and that is definitely worth visiting, especially the Royal Palace and for the Southern Indian cuisine.

I've been there but it's been a long time. While in the area, though, go to Madras or whatever they're calling it now, and to Pondicherry, and to see that giant Jain statue. Both Tamil Nadu and Karnataka are so worth seeing. Halebid and Belur! Sounds like Klingon lesbians but they are the most beautiful temples ever.

gnu ... Ann will be going for 6 weeks ... me, I'll be there just for 2 weeks (vacation). As she will be there for work, her airfare and accomodation is paid for ... me, I'll have to cough up my own airfare and I'll take advantage of the free 'room and board.'

Again ... much appreciate the info guys!
