Subject: The Great Guitar Trivia Quiz
From: Shackler

Okay, here it is, folks, the great guitar trivia quiz. If you want to take a shot at all questions without looking at any other responses--you can so indicate by declaring "VIRGIN" at the beginning of your response. That way we can see who wins.If you add any questions, number them in continuing order, so that people can continue to answer by number if they wish. Good luck to one and all! (1) Who played a guitar that had the same color scheme as a revered retangular piece of cloth? (2) What was the name of a long-lost-finally-found guitar in a Jerry Jeff Walker song? (3) What was distinctive about the guitar played by Ricky Nelson in "Rio Bravo?" (4) What does the "Blues Doctor," Drink Small, call his guitar? (5) What did Jimmy Hendricks like to do to his guitar which was somewhat out of the ordinary? (6) What could Josh White allegedly do with his guitar while playing it?

Who is Jimmy Hendrichs? Wasn't he in a jazz vocal trio? Who is from central America and billed himself as king of the 9 string guitar? And how did that Martin cost $3.00? and why should I care about Rick Nelson's guitar when he had that Burton guy (Richard?) playing all the hot licks?

Drink Small!!! I used to see him in Columbia, SC when I was in the Army. A real bluesman. Can't remember him calling his guitar anything in particular, though.

Mudcat's own Art Thieme is "King of the 9-string Guitar," the one he won in a raffle at the Old Town School of Folk Music and modified. I'll let him tell you all about it. Centennial Model, wasn't it, Art? Beautiful!

Sandy

Ricky Nelson appeared to be playing a Stella guitar with an odd electric sound to it. He played Cindy while Walter Brennan played harmonica. This was after He and Dean Martin sang an nice duet on MY Rifle, My Pony, and Me. (Probably a Ned Washington song). Am I close?

Didn't Hendrix sometimes pick the guitar with his teeth (or did he pick his teeth with his guitar?:)). --seedkratz

Very close, Don, but not quite what I had in mind. Didn't Dean Martin also sing a song named "Purple Eyes?" Err,...don't think you're warm, Seedkrantz.

OHHHHHHHH alright.

By the way, do you mean James Hendricks, cowboy singer or Jimi Hendrix, rock and roll wag (who set fire to his axe and screwed it, supposedly while playing) and self appointted demi-god to the constantly fogged?

2) Magnus.
3) It's a violin.
4) Little f-hole.
5) Used it as a sand ladder to get the tour bus out of soft sand on the way to a gig in Arizona.
6) Drink soup.

What's the prize?

6. Josh White could change a string while still playing the song he was performing. I saw this once. Amazing! He also used to stick his cigarette in his ear. I always stuck mine under a string at the nut.

I'm currently developing the 'Ron Woods Signature Model' simulated cigarette butt with virtual smoke, for use in UK pubs after July 1st.
Dreadnought size first; watch out for the full range.
