Subject: RE: BS: Happy St. Patricks Day 2008! From: John MacKenzie Date: 17 Mar 08 - 09:27 AM Well I have no time for these American holidays myself. Reminds me we have an Iranian lady comedian here in the UK, called Shappi Korsandi who is married to an Irish man, and they have a son called something like Mohammed Riley. She said that when he grows up he will confuse any Americans he meets, as they won't know whether to bomb him, or claim to be related to him! {Well I thought it was funny} Giok {hiding under bed waiting for reactions} |

Subject: RE: BS: Happy St. Patricks Day 2008! From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 17 Mar 08 - 10:25 AM We did something different this year, celebrated by having excellent corned beef and cabbage at Buster's Saloon in Sun City, Kansas. Buster's Then we shared some Bailey's chocolate mousse pie. It was a good thing we did, because today it is pouring down a cold rain, with plenty of thunder and lightning. It's too bad the people who run the parade refuse to acknowledge that the weather on March 17th is almost sure to be unpleasant here in River City. |
Subject: RE: BS: Happy St. Patricks Day 2008! From: Amos Date: 17 Mar 08 - 10:28 AM Gee--around here, the weather almost always celebrates Saint Paddy's day by glowing warmly all over. Kinda like Guinness, doncha know... A |

Subject: RE: BS: Happy St. Patricks Day 2008! From: John MacKenzie Date: 17 Mar 08 - 11:13 AM GOOD GRIEF - NOT BEEF! I just want to put something straight About what should be on your plate, If it's corned beef you're makin' You're sadly mistaken, That isn't what Irishmen ate. If you ever go over the pond You'll find it's of bacon they're fond, All crispy and fried, With some cabbage beside, And a big scoop of praties beyond. Your average Pat was a peasant Who could not afford beef or pheasant. On the end of his fork Was a bit of salt pork, As a change from potatoes 'twas pleasant. This custom the Yanks have invented, Is an error they've never repented, But bacon's the stuff That all Irishmen scoff, With fried cabbage it is supplemented. So please get it right this St. Paddy's. Don't feed this old beef to your daddies. It may be much flasher, But a simple old rasher, Is what you should eat with your tatties. ©Frances Shilliday 2004 |

Subject: RE: BS: Happy St. Patricks Day 2008! From: katlaughing Date: 17 Mar 08 - 11:52 AM This is the first St. Patrick's Day on which I cannot call my elderly family friend, Pat Murray, and wish her a Happy St. Patrick's Day. She was Irish-American through and through, and except for my dad, she was the only other person whom I always spoke with on this day. She passed away a few months ago, so...I'll raise a glass for her and daddy this evening. In the meantime, I don't think this is Irish, but I've been wanting to share it and this seems like a good place to, so: May the light always find you on a dreary day; when you need to be home, may you find your way. May you alway have courage to take a chance, and... may you never find frogs in your underpants! |
Subject: RE: BS: Happy St. Patricks Day 2008! From: Beer Date: 17 Mar 08 - 11:57 AM And best wishes because everyone is Irish today. Over to a friends house this evening to drink Green Beer and play Crokinole. Beer (adrien) |

Subject: RE: BS: Happy St. Patricks Day 2008! From: PoppaGator Date: 17 Mar 08 - 01:09 PM Saturday may "really" have been St. Patrick's feast day, according to some American Catholic bishops, but I prefer to consider BOTH Saturday (when I paraded with the Uptown Irish on a brilliant sunny day) AND today (when I'm at work 'til five, at which time I'll change clothes and repair to the Kerry Irish Pub, where we'll eventually witness the end of the Downtown Irish night parade) as celebrations of my Irishness, such as it is after a couple of generations in the US. |
Subject: RE: BS: Happy St. Patricks Day 2008! From: Rapparee Date: 17 Mar 08 - 01:13 PM Ah shure and may the best day of your life so far be the worst day of the rest of it. Faith an' beggorah and all that Oirish stuff. Celebrate the Day in the traditional way -- badmouth the English. |
Subject: RE: BS: Happy St. Patricks Day 2008! From: katlaughing Date: 17 Mar 08 - 07:45 PM Or listen to Rick Fielding on CUIT! It's been a fantastic show. Adrien, thank you. It was actually good that my friend finally let go...she was old and had been in ill health for several years; just too |
Subject: RE: BS: Happy St. Patricks Day 2008! From: GUEST,lox Date: 17 Mar 08 - 08:07 PM Ah yes. Cabbage and bacon. Not to be underestimated! In any sense! |
Subject: RE: BS: Happy St. Patricks Day 2008! From: Big Mick Date: 18 Mar 08 - 04:02 PM For me it is the ultimate test of endurance. Over the span of the last two weekends, weekday performances, and Monday, we played on TV, played colleges and schools, did concert venues, did pub venues, did industrial parties, did private parties.......and on and on. Just saturday and Monday we figured that actual performing time, exclusive of setup and breakdown was very close to a full day. I have literally worn the nail and a layer of skin from my index finger on my right hand, have a huge blister extending under the nail of the thumb of my right hand, and callouses that are peeling on my left hand. Our show is a very high energy act, and performing it one after another during the time leading up to and including St. Pat's Day is very taxing. I will be a couple of days recuperating, and then right back at it. I hope all of you had a blessed, fun, and safe day and got home in one piece. All the best, Mick |
