Have texted him Betsy.

Bank holiday Monday
If anyone wants something interesting to do on Monday 26th,
Beverley Minster are doing tours of the roof.
It's interesting and a lot of fun.
Cost is £4 (in aid of the minster up-keep)
and tours are at    10, 11:15, 12:15, 2:15, 3:15, 4:15

That Minster trip reminded me to change my earlier note. The £4 charge did it! Since I posted the details of the Bank Holiday trips on tug Wheldale at Goole Waterways Museum, the price of this has gone up to £4. It's the price of diesel that done it. So you can either stand on the roof of a church and look at Beverley or stand on the deck of a tug and look at Goole docks.

Steve

From: Soldier boy

I just popped over for one night (saturday) to visit this festival in its first year of conception.
Being its first year it was a bit quiet in terms of numbers of people but there was lots going on in the programme of events. The thing that struck me was that a hard-core of all the 'right' people were there so it worked.
I am sure that with these people involved working hard to stage it and continuing to attend and support it it will just grow and grow in the years ahead.
It has a lot going for it:
The right people (as mentioned).
All the venues and camping are all in one compact and easily strollable location (this really was a big bonus to me wi' me bad back).
The location itself at Beverly beck is like a seperate little community in the town with lots of interest and history.
It's nearly in the shadow of the Minster itself.
There are 7 pubs all within a stroll of each other and all were used to host informal concerts, workshops, singing and muso sessions
- That's good organisation!
The leisure centre is near all the pub venues, has all the facilities needed and tons of room on its surrounding fields for caravans, campervans and tents for only £8.00 per night.
Loads of parking space also available near leisure centre for non campers coming to the festival.
Because of all the folk friendly pubs in this small locality there is lots of potential to accomodate and further grow 'fringe' singing and muso sessions.
I wasn't there long and didn't go to many sessions in the programme but my impression was that because of all the above this could grow into a real diamond of a festival.
All the right ingredients in the cake are already there. All it needs now is a good stir of publicity and word of mouth and it could become a real cracker and a 'must do'event in the folkie calender. Look out for this festival next year.

Sadly couldn't make it owing to a certain football team playing at Wembley [What a result!]. However did try to get 36,000 black & amber clad supporters to sing Lal Waterson's great Hull anthem 'Some Old Salty' but without much success!

Look forward to making it in 2009.

The Roaring Forties had a ball!1 (Pity you didn't get to see us Les!!)
It was great to get to see old friends (and young friends) again. As mentioned above , when all the little hitches which are natural for a new fest are sorted out this has the potential for a great festival.
Well done to all the organisers and performers,,booked or not. Will PM you soon with some comments Mick...but I think that the big need for next time (and I hope there'll be one) is more Publicity.

Maggie and I had a brilliant time - it was a wonderful way to celebrate my 60th birthday! Thanks to everyone who helped to make this an event we'll all remember, and already people are wanting it in future years.

A lot of local singers, musicians and dancers contributed to making this a success so thanks to them, and particularly to the organising committee.

Home now, still with that warm glow you get when you've had a really good weekend's singing with lovely people.
Young'uns were amazing, John Conolley too, Hissyfit - well I'd come back just to see them!
Campsite perfect and so close to venues. Steve appreciated the basqued morris! My 3 wishes for the weekend all were granted - to hear 3 Day Millionaire (Thanks Mik) and I'm at home by the old muddy Humber (Thanks Geoff) and for Tigers to get through, wish my Dad was still here to see that one!
Hope to see you next year - we think you should charge us a bit of money - not £80 obviously but we don't want to deprive the opera of too much Lottery money...
Love Ali & Steve

Thanks to Mick and the team (and the artists).

I'll definitely be back

Back home and back at the pc , and like others above with the feeling of a fabulous weekend in good company, made to feel thoroughly at home and welcome, all folks working together to make it a success but importantly, all enjoying it tremendously in the process.
Great to meet up with all those too numerous to mention who I'd not seen for a while, including many fellow-Catters.... Thanks especially to Maggie and Les, Hissyfit, John & Zeke, Anna Shannon, the Young'uns, Monkey's Fist, Roaring Forties and Ossonflags (the Guv!) hisself, but let's face it, eveyone was a star!
Considering it was a "first time" with its inevitable little things to sort out, Mick and his team got so much so right (good onya mate -massive well-dun there!) and with a bit more tweaking (and better publicity) this event has all the ingredients to be a regular fixture on the calendar. The dates are already in my diary for next year...

If anyone didn't fill in a feedback form, please let me know and I can email one to you - the more feedback we get the better we can make it next time - and we're all adamant there will be a next time if we can get the funding,

We had a ball, the last night was as memorable as any in a major festival -what a singaround! Thanks to the wonderful John Connolly for allowing us to join him on his set, to Trim Rig and Doxy, for the same, we love singing with you guys! - just so many great voices. The Young 'uns were a revelation and asking them to sing with us, just blew me away -Hartlepool is indeed blooming!!! - my stepson and grandchildren don't 'do' folk but enjoued the afternoon on the Beck and the singing in Hodgsons so much they are now thinking of coming to a full weekend festival!!!!!if tey start planning next years tomorrow as they said -it will be storming!!!

we could only make Saturday, but thoroughly enjoyed the day the boats were good to look at, and the singing was excellent (not being singers ourselves we didnt know what to expect, and we were delighted by the Roaring Forties and Jim Eldon and Hissyfit and Dave and Julie Evardson. The Roaring Forties were kind enough to ask me to play my tunes when I pointed out I dont do "singing", and even clapped - greatly appeciated.
Congratulations to all the organisers

Lin, it was dry! Thank goodness.   What a brill weekend.

Thanks 'danesis' for all the fantastic photos. I missed "Those girlies on Crane Wharf" "Rocky Horror meets Morris Dancing" but your pics showed some of their energy.

All this within 2 miles of home - it was great to see how popular this first festival was and to know that so many travelled far to join in and that Cleethorpes loss was our gain! Great to hear Dave and Julie Evardson again, on fine form at the end of a long day.

Nev and Co - all the boat crews - please come again. I didn't get the chance to get on board the 'stunning' Spider or chat about the vessels.

Having the chance to join forces and harmonise with Trim rig and a Doxy, John Conolly and "the young 'uns" (in order of occurrence) Wow, what a treat - a different dimension which must be repeated.

Congratulations Old Git for drying your tears. Has t'other Geoff got his voice back yet? Apologies from me for my tearful tiredness on Sunday afternoon - the emotion of the song and the virtual hug that envelops this sort of event simply got to me.
The survivors session was 'something else'! Ali and Steve delivered a sound I'd never heard from them before and Hazel Bolton chose the perfect 'harmonise-along' Eileen A'roon(sic).

Like Willa said, "in fear of missing someone out I'll not name any more names"- but all who were there were on finest form. Thank you.
See you next year - if not sooner. Hazel.x.x.x

PS Happy Birthday TODAY to Les (60) Ward and Linda Kelly (lots less) than Les

Outrageous story in the Hull Daily Mail about the lock keeper on the Beck refusing entry to a boat coming to the Festival because they hadn't booked 2 days ahead!

If E.Yorks Council are serious about making the Beck a tourist amenity they'd do well to get rid of all the 'jobsworths' first!
