Subject: RE: Ron Hynes From: oldhippie Date: 16 Apr 08 - 07:30 AM "Sonny's Dream" is a really great Ron Hynes song. It seems no matter who sings it, it always sounds terrific. |
Subject: RE: Ron Hynes From: Beer Date: 16 Apr 08 - 07:35 AM If you like perfection try and find Sonny's Dream by Hayley Westenra. There was a clip of her doing it on her web site but I don't see it there anymore. Maybe on You Tube. Worth the search or purchase. |

Subject: RE: Ron Hynes From: GUEST,DWR Date: 16 Apr 08 - 12:29 PM As much as I like Sonny's Dream, my favorite Ron Hynes song is Atlantic Blue, his tribute to the Ocean Ranger. I was much surprised to find that we don't have it, so rather than losing it in this thread, I think I will start one of its own. |
Subject: RE: Ron Hynes From: Beer Date: 16 Apr 08 - 12:31 PM DWR, Excellent song. Just love it. |
Subject: RE: Ron Hynes From: Peace Date: 16 Apr 08 - 12:37 PM Atlantic Blue Ron Hynes What colour is a heartache from a love lost at sea What Shade of memory never fades but lingers to eternity How dark is the light of day that sleepless eyes of mine survey Is that you Atlantic Blue? My heart is as cold as you How is one heart chosen to never lie at peace How many moments remain is there not oneof sweet release And who's the stranger at my door to haunt my dreams forever more Is that you Atlantic Blue? My heart is as cold as you. as you I lie awake in the morning as the waves wash on the sand I hold my hurt at bay I hold the lives of his children in my hands And who's Plea will receive no answer who's cry is lost upon the wind Who's the voice so familiar whispers my name as the night comes in And who's wish never fails to to find my vacant heart at valentines Is that you Atlantic Blue? My heart is as cold My heart is as cold My heart is as cold as you. |
Subject: RE: Ron Hynes From: Willie-O Date: 16 Apr 08 - 12:48 PM Ron is a master songwriter and performer. You can learn a whole lot from him, Sonny's Dream is just the bare beginning. He has a genius for conveying emotion by matching lyrics to passing chords that rivals the best work of Lennon-McCartney. And I've seen him regain control of a noisy Cape Breton pub with an a capella "Bonnie Portmore"--not many could match it. He got himself straightened out--very publicly--a couple of years ago, will tell you "cocaine is a bullshit drug", and will be with us for many years to come. Thanks be. In our band The Skirmish, we've been doing "St John's Waltz". Just for the pure pleasure of the flow of it. We need more waltzes like that. W-O |
Subject: RE: Ron Hynes From: Sandy Mc Lean Date: 16 Apr 08 - 06:32 PM Hayley Westenra has a great voice but she sings it too slow. I'll stick with Hynes as the benchmark. |
Subject: RE: Ron Hynes From: GEST Date: 16 Apr 08 - 08:32 PM I have this to say about that.... http://www.wtv-zone.com/phyrst/audio/nfld/ahynes.htm

Subject: Ron Hynes From: Beer Date: 14 Sep 10 - 10:42 PM I met a man a few years back who gave me hell because I bought a moose burger from a stand that was not his. "Why didn't you buy it here at this stand. I provide the meat here ". I apologized and then realized that I was speaking to Ron Hynes. He followed up by saying " You main landers will believe anything". Well he got me good, but not to far off the coast of Newfoundland is an other Island and we can also strike back. So this SPUD from Prince Edward Island got Ron back when he came up and played at a festival I was involved with. Ron's handle is "A Man of a Thousand Songs". What a great person and a Canadian treasure. and Lynn, Ron's marketing and media relations agent is very special as well. Love you both Adrien |
