Subject: Sauce Singers From: Les in Chorlton Date: 15 Apr 08 - 06:32 AM In this context "Sauce" being money. I wish all musicians well and trust that those who are worth seeing make a decent living although those on the folk scene clearly find it difficult. Whilst we almost certainly don't have UK folk millionaires has anybody been lucky or talented enough to be a bit rich? This is meant in curious good faith not an attempt to knock anybody, (some hope). |
Subject: RE: Sauce Singers From: Ruth Archer Date: 15 Apr 08 - 07:18 AM I thought this was going to be about singers' preferred sauce. Mine is brown, but I feel HP is an abomination - it's Daddies every time. You can't beat that feeling of paint stripper hitting the roof of your mouth. My partner, who also sings, prefers NO SAUCE AT ALL. This is even more of an abomination than HP. How can you eat a sausage with no sauce? He also doesn't eat smoked bacon. I ask you. |
Subject: RE: Sauce Singers From: Waddon Pete Date: 15 Apr 08 - 07:24 AM My Granddad used to mind the time he heard singing coming from the old Marmite factory! |
Subject: RE: Sauce Singers From: Les in Chorlton Date: 15 Apr 08 - 07:25 AM Never was a thread so quickly mugged, but thanks anyway |
Subject: RE: Sauce Singers From: Ruth Archer Date: 15 Apr 08 - 07:28 AM Well, Les, I think talking about people's favourite sauce is perhaps more socially acceptable than asking about how much money they earn...it's bound to end up in speculation and bitterness, apart from being a bit of an invasion of privacy. So...what's YOUR favourite sauce? :) |
Subject: RE: Sauce Singers From: Black belt caterpillar wrestler Date: 15 Apr 08 - 07:46 AM I seem to remember hearing Ross Campbell singing "The Bovril's with the gravy but the Marmite's with the jam". |
Subject: RE: Sauce Singers From: Les in Chorlton Date: 15 Apr 08 - 08:43 AM I am sure you are right Ruth but it would be nice to think somebody had a couple of bob. I'd always go for Pataks extra hot pickled limes |
Subject: RE: Sauce Singers From: Ruth Archer Date: 15 Apr 08 - 08:47 AM oooh - in come the Asian options! At Bobby's restaurant in Leicester they do this lovely tamarind sauce that goes with the pakora. Yum. But I'm a big fan of lime pickle as well. My partner eats mango chutney in industrial quantities. |
Subject: RE: Sauce Singers From: GUEST,Darowyn Date: 15 Apr 08 - 08:55 AM That would be the resident band here then.... The Little Sauce Factory in Worcester is a relaxed a la carte Restaurant and Tapas Bar. European cuisine with authentic dishes from Spain, Germany and France, plus many of his own creation. These are complemented by early evening Tapas and on Sundays, Traditional Roasts. Cheers Dave |
Subject: RE: Sauce Singers From: Jack Blandiver Date: 15 Apr 08 - 08:59 AM Tomato Sauce; Heinz of course. I like sitting in Wetherspoons making tomato sauce sandwiches with mini cheddars whilst waiting for the main course. Just one of the many joys of being married to a very tolerant lady... |
Subject: RE: Sauce Singers From: Jack Blandiver Date: 15 Apr 08 - 09:01 AM I also applaud Buffet@Preston for having bottles of Kikkoman soy on the tables. Why wouldn't you find Dracula in an all-you-can-eat Chinese? |
Subject: RE: Sauce Singers From: Uncle_DaveO Date: 15 Apr 08 - 09:06 AM Well, I know some folk musicians who "hit the sauce" quite a bit! My favorite sauce is Glenfiddich! Dave Oesterreich |
Subject: RE: Sauce Singers From: GUEST Date: 15 Apr 08 - 04:53 PM I'm with Ruth Archer's partner. As long as it's a quality sausage, no sauce is the way to go! |
Subject: RE: Sauce Singers From: Herga Kitty Date: 15 Apr 08 - 04:57 PM Black belt CW - you may have heard Ross Campbell singing it, but "the Bovril's with the gravy and the Marmite's with the jam" was penned by McGrath of Harlow! Kitty (lost in Tesco) |
Subject: RE: Sauce Singers From: GUEST,The Mole Catcher's unplugged Apprentice Date: 15 Apr 08 - 05:08 PM Chutney sandwiches...yum! yes we have a shop here in Victoria BC, Canada, that sells food stuffs from the UK.. ;-) Charlotte R |
Subject: RE: Sauce Singers From: Ruth Archer Date: 15 Apr 08 - 05:10 PM Guest, I agree in a supper context, though a nice bit of homemade gravy is never unwelcome. But I'm talking breakfast here. It's just wrong. |
Subject: RE: Sauce Singers From: GUEST,The Mole Catcher's unplugged Apprentice Date: 15 Apr 08 - 05:15 PM Breakfast....HP Sauce...though here if you don't put ketchup on it, you're looked as weird.... Charlotte R |
