Subject: TRAD Music Sessions in Bray (Ireland)? From: Charley Noble Date: 09 May 08 - 08:21 PM "Bray (Irish: Bré, formerly Brí Chulainn) is a town in northern County Wicklow, Ireland. It is a busy urban centre and seaside town of 31,901 people, making it the fourth largest town in Ireland (excluding the five cities). It is situated about 20 km (12 mi) south of Dublin on the eastern coast." One of our members of the sea music group Roll & Go is now a transient resident of Bray and would be interested in knowing of any sessions going on in and about that fair city. He's a quality control engineer in charge of setting up a medical widget factory there and will be quite busy doing that for the next few weeks. However, he doesn't work weekends and is a fine traditional style singer, and quite good on the penny whistle as well. I would be delighted to forward any leads to him. He is also interested in sources of green vegetables, which evidently do not exist in Bray for love nor money! Cheerily, Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: TRAD Music Sessions in Bray (Ireland)? From: MartinRyan Date: 10 May 08 - 04:06 AM "Pat The Verse" and George Henderson, both of whom appear here at intervals, are both resident in that general area, as far as I recall. A PM to either/both should produce some info - if not some produce! Regards |
Subject: RE: TRAD Music Sessions in Bray (Ireland)? From: Kevin Sheils Date: 10 May 08 - 04:26 AM There was a recent thread about a new North Wicklow singers club either in Bray or nearby Greystones IIRC Putting North Wicklow in the mudcat search brought up no threads and just Wicklow didn't seem to bring up the one I'm thinking of I'm afraid so maybe my memory is wrong. |

Subject: RE: TRAD Music Sessions in Bray (Ireland)? From: Charley Noble Date: 10 May 08 - 09:50 AM Actually Nor has been making some progress on his own (he's back briefly this weekend and we've just been conferring on the phone), exploring the various pubs. He's been to The Porter, Clancy's, and had a wonderful time at the Harbour Bar, where they told him about the new singers circle at the Strand. Nor was invited to lead a song and choose "Mollymauk" (by Bob Watson) which was well received. Cheerily, Charley Noble |

Subject: RE: TRAD Music Sessions in Bray (Ireland)? From: GUEST Date: 14 May 08 - 07:25 AM Being a transplanted trad.musician, from the US, living in South Dublin and North Wicklow area these past 5-6 years I can say there are great sessions out there and also some good produce! One of my favorite and most gracious sessions to visit is Monday nights at the Wishing Well in the Blackrock area...Newtown Park Avenue area. Brilliant musicians and very welcoming. There is a lovely session in Kilpedder, Co.Wicklow, on Tuesday nights in the Willow Grove Pub...I often attend these. Every other Weds. is Americana/Old time at the Punchbowl in Blackrock. A new session has started up on the other side of the Wicklow Gap on Sunday evenings..early start...5ish until around 8 PM...again, very welcoming. Produce...fruit and veg. stand in Sandycove on the main drag is a good source and we also have an organic veg/fruit shop/cafe here in Kilpedder just around the corner from Jock's pub. |
Subject: RE: TRAD Music Sessions in Bray (Ireland)? From: MartinRyan Date: 14 May 08 - 10:13 AM Thanks, GUEST. Given that Wicklow is called "The Garden of Ireland", it would be a poor lookout if it couldn't come up with some good veg! Regards p.s. Mind you - isn't Sandycove in Dublin? He, he... |
Subject: RE: TRAD Music Sessions in Bray (Ireland)? From: GUEST,erinmaidin Date: 15 May 08 - 09:24 AM heya Martin! don't know why I often show up as "guest" but anyway, it is I...Eileen, here. Yes,my luv, Sandycove is in Dublin...and I was also living there for about 5 months..in a townhouse...lovely place, near the sea...I loved it..but the auld one next door couldn't stand music, of any kind..the sort that keeps her ear pressed to the wall to make sure rules weren't being broken, and we had to move. Kilpedder is great! I'm in an old gate lodge with about an acre of garden surrounding...I can now play to my heart's content. Hope you're keeping well..all the best. |
