It's been unseasonably cold here (southern Ontario) in April and May so far. Cold nights and cool to temperate days. Right now it's 50 degrees F out there on a sunny evening with clear blue skies. The new grass has barely started to grow. Has anyone else been experiencing a colder than usual spring in their region?

Here in eastern Ontario it's been slighter cooler than normal but fairly dry and sunny, in fact our garden planting is more advanced than it has been in many a previous year.

Here in the South of England, on the coast, close to that little diamond shaped island in the middle, the weather has been warmer, then colder, then warmer, then - like a game of thermometer ping pong.

We had few April showers - it would be dry for a while and then it would pour down, then do the same thing again.

Sort of like normal weather but the variation far wider than normal, as though someone moved the stops further out so whatever the weather is, it is far more so tham usual.

I has been chillier than usual here in Michigan, too. I've got the heat on this morning, because it's so cold and damp. We should be in the 70's by now. But can't complain about the rain, because we need it badly.

We've turned off the gas Rayburn and don't bother lighting the fires this time of year, but came bloody close to it last night!
Went to hang the 1st batch of post festival washing up and saw ice on a puddle of water!!

Climate is changing rapidly. And no government really takes action to prevent our good old world from catastrophic destructions.
The US sleeps well till now. Ever Angela Merkel (Chancellor of Germany) is a hot-air merchant.
Don't wont to live in 2050 and over. It will be terrible.

Man O Man! I am sweatin bullets! Been out in the back fourty (feet) poundin down fence posts with a twenty pound maul in the hot sun and 80% humidity.

Yup, summer's a comin. Got three of four window air conditioners in the two houses late last week. On accounta, here in the Merrytimes of Canuckistan, we got this thing called spring which lasts about spit time between our two main seasons, snow blowin and lawn mowin. We got the dirty thirties here in both seasons, plus or minus and plus or minus close to ten degrees... that's Celcius... ceptin fer ye Yanks what live in the cold spots... on accounta -40 is -40, whether yer talking C (Celcius) er F (fuckin cold).

Anahwhhhay... I gotta grab a cold cold one and relax on this here National Holiday as my neack and arms are a touch on the red side. In the colony of The Dominion of Canuckville, It is "Victoria Day", in honour of The Empress Queen. Vickie, or "Vi", as I call her, is honoured by most Canucks on this sacred day. Why, if you were to set yer ass along any river hereaboutst, you would see canoes laden with Canoekies paying homage to the Her Majesty with fishing rods a bobbin and ales a clinkin. Of course, local like, it is known as "The May Run".

Little Hawk.... hope yer day today is somewhat warmer... even if it's only because your heart is filled with joy celebrating Vi's Bday.

God Bless The Queen.

New York City area has been really up and down-just when you think it has broken and we have the 65-70 range, it barely gets out of the 50's, which isn't normal for now. But the alternative of a New York city triple h day, I'd rather have it be chillier!

I keep hearing people say "So much for global warming!"
They don't seem to realize this is a good sign of it.
We've been up and down but it hasn't stayed above 70 for two days yet and it's been well below what is considered normal.
Last year it seemed that the winter went on forever as well.

but a recent killing frost has zapped many of the trees--fruit and otherwise have lost leaves, blossoms. it looks like there will be no cherries here in the foothills this year.

we had a few clouds come over to offer some relief this afternoon.
already there has been a 100 acre fire in the area. and i worked

we will be due for extraordinary record breaking life threatening storms come September on the east coast.

There will be a mass migration of Antarctic penguins that will assault the coasts of New England, driving all before them. The military, weakened by its committments overseas, will prove unable to stop them. This will be the beginning of the end.

They'll be met by herds of migrating very hungry polar bears headed the other way which will probably result in a whole lot of well fed polar bears and not alot of penguins left.

Aside from the fac that this may be due in part to the tremendous volcanic outgassing as of late, yes, global warming.
As I understand from several programs and articles:
As the ice up north melts and dilutes the salt water it becomes less dense and stays near the surface instead of sinking as it is supposed to. This means that the driving force behind the Gulf Stream slows causing the Gulf Stream itself to slow. As a result the Gulf of Mexico and the gulf region becomes warmer (one of the reasons they're calling for a busier hurricane season). The other result is that the eastern seaboard stays cooler due to the loss of the gulf stream influence.

Doug, you will be delighted to know that I now think (after recent investigations on the Net) that Al Gore's global warming shtick is not correct at all. I think it's disinformation. There is some global warming occurring, yes, but I don't think it's occurring for the reasons that Al Gore has stated. I think it's occurring due to the cyclical activities of the Sun, therefore it's not humanly caused and we can't do dick-all about it. It's a cyclical thing that has happened before many times and it will pass when the Sun's activities moderate...as has also happened many times before.

To say the above is, of course, utter heresy in a liberal milieu!!! So I can expect some horrified comments from my worthy brothers and sisters here, but I don't give a tiddly about that. ;-)

Now, the weather here. It has improved slightly. Today we're at about 50 degress F. Still unseasonably cold out there but not as bad as the last few days.

I can understand accepting that it is natural in cause but I think that doing nothing to reduce whatever impact we may be having.

I actually get a laugh out of it from time to time especially since the people who seem to be the biggest detractors also seem to be the ones that don't believe in evolution.

I don't know how they think we're going to adapt to the atmosphere if we continue to spew all of these different materials into it, much less the tons of carbon dioxide.

I believe in evolution. ;-) I am not recommending doing nothing to curb harmful emissions. I would be in favour of that in any case, just from the point of view of cleaner air and a healthier atmosphere.

I just don't buy the particular angle that Al Gore is pushing on this one...which is that our industrial civilization caused the global warming. I don't think so. Not any more. The historical and geological evidence of the last 1,000 or so years does not support his theory well at all....and I used to take Al Gore's word on it as gospel.

I have a great website I could direct you to about that...if I could remember where the heck it is! Maybe later.

The problem is that I am/was a hazmat tech. Every day I get dozens of calls about what's going into our waters and atmosphere. It's not hard to believe that we're having some impact, whether or not we're the major cause.

I just wish that G.W.B. hadn't spent the last eight years prevaricating about it and throwing away taxpayer money first to see if it existed and then to see if we might be the cause. We could've put the money into clean tech development instead.

We used to follow the sulferous soot cloud from Bethlehem Steel to get back into Baltimore harbor when the compass went goofy. It was that bad that you could see it from miles away.

Well, I have GOOD NEWS!!!!!!!! Good weather has finally arrived here in central Ontario! Today is sunny, lovely weather, and WARM! It's the kind of weather one would expect to see on a peaceful Sunday in late May. It may even get hot at this rate by mid-afternoon. AWRIGHT!!!!!!! The dog is rolling around in the fresh grass and contemplating his kingdom with placid good humor. He hopes to find a dead animal carcass soon to roll in. The birdies are chirping in the trees. Paradise.

I am going to spend a lovely day out in the sunshine and count my blessings. Global warming is finally here at last in central Ontario and here (I hope) to stay for a bit.

Next, Little Hawk, perhaps you would like to look into the concept of "abiotic" (aka "abiogenic") oil. The Russians were thought to have very little oil reserves after WWII, and yet they are now the third largest producer in the world. They have written at least 1000 scientific articles about the "non-dino" oil concept, but only a handful have been translated into English. They are many important people in the West who don't want to rock the boat. There are the ones who get power and wealth from the concept that the Earth is not making oil anymore.
