Twenty years ago my wife and I used to wake up to the sound of "Homestead on the Farm," the theme song of a radio show featuring Flatt and Scruggs. Anybody else remember this wonderful show? What a great way to start the day it was.

Do you mean the show sponsored by Marth White Flower? That must've been closer to 50 years ago. Later, Martha White Flower sponsored the great band HOT RIZE. It was their commercial claim that their flower was the one that had the quality of 'Hot Rize'--ie. the name of the band.

Oh how I wish I could hear some of those! I wonder if any of them were taped and issued commercially. Never actually seen Martha White Flour, but I'd buy it in a flash!

Nope, he's serious. (It DOES happen!) Just checked my pantry and found Martha White Cornbread Mix, (that is practically ALWAYS available, in case of a MW anxiety attack) plus MW Strawberry and Blackberry Muffin mixes.

On a related note, I don't know that any of the F&S shows are available, but several of the Blue Sky Boys shows from the late 40s and early 50s are. Great, fabulous listening! Earl Bolick died earlier this year, but Bill Bolick is still alive, living in NC, I think. They were just teenagers when they started their remarkable career in 1936. Here is a review of a couple of CDs of their old transcriptions, with some nice pictures from Bluegrass Unlimited.
