Subject: RE: BS: 99 Degrees... In the Shade... From: maire-aine Date: 08 Jun 08 - 08:40 PM Not quite so hot since the thunderstorms blew through. We had tornado warnings all across Michigan, but as far as I know, nothing touched down. |
Subject: RE: BS: 99 Degrees... In the Shade... From: Ebbie Date: 08 Jun 08 - 08:44 PM In Juneau, Alaska, 53F at the moment, 52% humidity, breezy and bright. For us, a normal summer day... But drier. |
Subject: RE: BS: 99 Degrees... In the Shade... From: GUEST,Chief Chaos Date: 08 Jun 08 - 09:09 PM It was 97 here in DC when I got into the office at 1330. Yesterday it hit 100. I wish I hadn't been out in it. My arms, neck and face got a little too much sun (reflected) even though I was under cover. The thunderstorms were spectacular though we didn't get any rain/relief. I think I predicted this in another thread. No spring, straight to summer! |
Subject: RE: BS: 99 Degrees... In the Shade... From: Bill D Date: 08 Jun 08 - 09:23 PM We had Spring ...even up here in Silver Spring...it was quite decent in April/May. I have been out from 8PM till dark cutting up vines & tree trimmings for the collectors tomorrow, and it was still almnost 90F. Now I get to see if there's any opening to mow before next rain. |
Subject: RE: BS: 99 Degrees... In the Shade... From: frogprince Date: 08 Jun 08 - 09:32 PM Didn't know maire-aine was in Michigan. We're 50 miles north of Detroit; it was good and hot, but with a little breeze, until around 4pm. Then we tried to go for a picnic by the lake in a little park a few miles from home. We wound up sitting in the parking lot for a few minutes in a brutal gusting wind, with the car rocking like a boat and a bunch of fire hoses blasting the side of the car. I've never seen horizontal rain to beat that in my life, and maybe never seen it quite matched. Acorns were bouncing off the car like hail. Lots of big branchs all over the road as we drove home. We breathed a sigh of relief to find that we had electricity, and no real apparent damage, when we got home. |
Subject: RE: BS: 99 Degrees... In the Shade... From: Padre Date: 08 Jun 08 - 09:34 PM 98 degrees at Eagle Rock - but only 94 in Carloover (Bath County, elevation 2740 feet) The 3:30 mass was 'toasty' in our little un-airconditioned chapel [AC to be installed next month!] Oh, and the motor on our heat pump' fan went out yesterday afternoon -it will be fixed 'sometime' tomorrow. Other than that, a lovely June day in the Alleghany Highlands of Virginia Padre |

Subject: RE: BS: 99 Degrees... In the Shade... From: Rapparee Date: 08 Jun 08 - 10:06 PM 62F, clear blue sky, gentle breeze. Tomorrow it will climb to 72, then fall back to a high of 56 on Tuesday, slowly climbing all the way to 62 by next Saturday through a week of gentle mountain breezes and skies so blue it hurts when it reflects off the snow that still lays gentle in some protected mountain tops. Eat your heart out, Bobert, Bill D., Chief C., Amos, and the rest! |
Subject: RE: BS: 99 Degrees... In the Shade... From: katlaughing Date: 08 Jun 08 - 10:58 PM Hahaha...a beautiful low-70s day here in Sunny Colorado at about 4,800 feet. It will be nice until Tuesday when it is supposed to hit in the high 90s. It has really been fluctuating a lot this year, much more than I remember. I just hope it doesn't get hot and stay hot, but that would be normal.:-) |
Subject: RE: BS: 99 Degrees... In the Shade... From: Stilly River Sage Date: 09 Jun 08 - 12:14 AM It's just past 11pm and it has cooled to 86 degrees in Edgecliff Village (a Fort Worth enclave), Texas. I'm not sure how hot it actually got today, I'd guess mid-90s. I came in to cool of a few times, but I make a practice to drink a lot of water when I'm working outside so mostly I have to go inside to pee and refill my big drink cup with ice water. SRS |
Subject: RE: BS: 99 Degrees... In the Shade... From: eddie1 Date: 09 Jun 08 - 01:25 AM Here in Reading (UK) it has been mid - 20s Celsius for three days now. All Brits will know what this means - look out for a hosepipe ban! Eddie |

Kept my air conditioner in my bedroom on all day, since it's the hottest room in the house otherwise, kept the blinds closed in the rest of the house and it wasn't too bad, think I'll go to the movies today where it'll be air-conditioned. |
Subject: RE: BS: 99 Degrees... In the Shade... From: Rapparee Date: 09 Jun 08 - 09:08 AM Right now it's 52.3F and beautifully clear. About a 20 degree gain today, and then a high of 56F tomorrow. Oh, you gotta be tough to live here.... |

Subject: RE: BS: 99 Degrees... In the Shade... From: Bill D Date: 09 Jun 08 - 04:02 PM I made Sun Tea today and mowed 1/3 of the yard,,,it says it is 'only' 94 on my weather program. Oh...I also made side reflectors for the car windows with cardboard and heavy-duty aluminum foil...to go with those fold-up commercial one you buy for the front window. |
Subject: RE: BS: 99 Degrees... In the Shade... From: PoppaGator Date: 09 Jun 08 - 04:18 PM No heat wave in New Orelans ~ we're average for this time of year: highs in the 78-82 area, overnight lows still below 70 (barely) and the usual 90%+ humidity. It'll get hotter. By August the termperature will never go below 80F, not even in the "wee wee hours" after midnight. Our habitually high humidity puts a limit on temperatures, for what it's worth: the damp air prevents the mercury from exceeding 100F no matter what, even during spells when it hits 97-98 every day and never drops below about 85 overnight. |
Subject: RE: BS: 99 Degrees... In the Shade... From: katlaughing Date: 09 Jun 08 - 04:54 PM Has anyone tried one of THESE? I keep thinking I'll get one. IT seems like a good idea. |

Subject: RE: BS: 99 Degrees... In the Shade... From: Bill D Date: 10 Jun 08 - 11:28 AM Kat...yes, I bought one of 'those' (or very similar) in a store here a couple years ago. It 'sorta' worked. It is supposed to start on its own when sunlight hits it, but it didn't always. I'd have to stick a pencil or something in and flick the little fan blade. Good idea....but a bit chancey. |

Subject: RE: BS: 99 Degrees... In the Shade... From: wysiwyg Date: 10 Jun 08 - 03:00 PM Blahblahblah here...... Hardi decided our one emergency-bedroom AC wasn't cooling enough so the other night he went out at 10PM and bought another one, had it installed and running in an hour in time for a nice cool sleep. It's running now.... waiting for me to call the day quits and go back up there... but all the house chores are down here where it's HOT! So I putter, getting as much done as I can stand to attempt. ~S~ |
Subject: RE: BS: 99 Degrees... In the Shade... From: Stilly River Sage Date: 10 Jun 08 - 03:16 PM Kat, I have a couple of those little vehicle solar fans, my Dad sent me one years ago and I think I inherited another. They kind of work. But since the window is sometimes still open a crack with that in the gap anyway, it's hard to say which helps, the fan or the crack. :) SRS |

Subject: RE: BS: 99 Degrees... In the Shade... From: Bill D Date: 10 Jun 08 - 04:38 PM SRS...the one we got had a way to seal the crack. You had to cut a gadget to fill the crack either side of the fan. |
Subject: RE: BS: 99 Degrees... In the Shade... From: Susan A-R Date: 10 Jun 08 - 05:12 PM Thunderstorms just went through and I'd guess it's still in the high 80s and steamy. Pretty bad when I'm having my own darned power surges. Hendrix the big black cat just lies there, sprawled in a most ungentlemanly fashion and looks accusingly at me. This is VERMONT, This is early JUNE. |
