Subject: RE: It's Raining From: Azizi Date: 24 Jun 08 - 08:09 AM Is it still raining where you are? In no way do I want to minimize the global warming catastrophe that many folks in the Midwestern United States and elsewhere are experiencing now. But, as a means of lightening up moods on a rainy, dreary looking day, I'm wondering how you would complete the sentence "It's raining..."? |
Subject: RE: It's Raining From: SINSULL Date: 24 Jun 08 - 08:12 AM It's raining It's puring The old man is snoring. Bumped his head and He went to bed And he couldn't get up in the morning Rivers flood - not sure we can blame this one on global warming. |
Subject: RE: It's Raining From: Azizi Date: 24 Jun 08 - 08:12 AM Well, I guess there's a ton of references to songs that could be added to make this thread belong above the line, though I really meant it to be a BS thread. Either place will do. But can you stop the rain?! |
Subject: RE: It's Raining From: Azizi Date: 24 Jun 08 - 08:14 AM Sinsull, I've often wondered [though I confess that I've not lost any sleep over it[, but who is "the old man" in that rhyme you quoted? Is that a reference to God? And is "snoring" in that line a reference to thunder? |

But there's some lines of that song that are relevant to the theme of this thread: Can you stop the rain from fallin? Won't you chase my cloud away? I'd give anything to see the sun again... So now, maybe these song references make this a >i>legitimate music thread, instead of an illegitimate music thread. {Who's your Daddy, little thread?} Nevermind. |

Subject: RE: It's Raining From: Azizi Date: 24 Jun 08 - 09:48 AM These lyrics keep goin round & round in my head since I started this thread-Yeah I know it's my own fault. Does anyone know which song they come from? River looks dark with the shadows on it. Mighty black clouds in the sky above. Still I ain't 'fraid of the rain, doggone it. River and rain are the things I love. Rain fall down on me. I'm as happy as I can be... -snip- I learned this song in junior high school music class. I vaguely recall somebody posted it on another Mudcat thread and mentioning that it was a Blues song. It woulda been too much like right for my teacher to tell us students that that song was Blues. But maybe he didn't know. Teaching the Blues in American public schools in the early to mid 1960s? It never happened and still probably isn't happening today. But that's a whole 'nuther story. |

Drip drop Drip drop Drip drop Drip drop It's raining so hard Looks like it's gonna rain all night And this is the time I'd love to be holding you tight But I guess I'll have to accept The fact that you're not here I wish the rain would hurry up And end, my dear It's raining so hard It's really coming down Sittin' by my window Watching the rain fall to the ground This is the time I'd love to be holding you tight But I guess I'll just go crazy tonight It's raining so hard It brings back memories Of the time That you were here with me Counting every drop About to lose my top I wish the rain would hurry up and stop I've got the blues so bad I can hardly catch my breath The harder it rains The worse it gets This is the time I'd love to be holding you tight But I guess I'll just go crazy tonight Drip drop Drip drop Drip drop.. Subject: Lyr Add: RAIN (Jose Feliciano) From: Houston_Diamond Date: 24 Jun 08 - 12:39 PM Artist - Jose Feliciano Album - Light My Fire Lyrics - RAIN Listen to the pouring rain Listen to it pour, And with every drop of rain You know I love you more Let it rain all night long, Let my love for you go strong, As long as we're together Who cares about the weather? Listen to the falling rain, Listen to it fall, And with every drop of rain, I can hear you call, Call my name right out loud, I can here above the clouds And I'm here among the puddles, You and I together huddle. Listen to the falling rain, Listen to it fall. It's raining, It's pouring, The old man is snoring, Went to bad And bumped his head, He couldn't get up in the morning, Listen to the falling rain, listen to the rain Sorry, i like reggae songs and I remembered this one :D |
Subject: RE: It's Raining From: Azizi Date: 24 Jun 08 - 12:58 PM And I like children's rhymes. Here's one with only two lines-that I can remember anyway: Rain rain go away. Little Azizi* wants to play. [I guess that means {go outside} to play. I wasn't allowed to go outside and play when it was raining]. * substitute any child's name. As for the use of my name, well, I'm a child at heart. |

Subject: RE: It's Raining From: PoppaGator Date: 24 Jun 08 - 01:15 PM Listen to the rhythm of the falling rain Telling me just what a fool I've been I wish that I could ...... And let me be alone again. Rain won't you tell her that I love her so ..........so she won't go I can't rememeber the artist's name or any more of the lyrics, but I can clearly hear the tune and the tinkly bell-like intrumental part... From top-40 pop radio, mid-to-late 1960s, is my guess. The lyrics on the fade-out are "pitter-patter pitter-patter, whoa..." |
Subject: RE: It's Raining From: Azizi Date: 24 Jun 08 - 01:20 PM Not that it matters all that much, but that children's rhyme I posted works best for two syllable names. So it would be "little Zizi wants to play"... That was bothering me. I feel better now. :o) |
Subject: RE: It's Raining From: Azizi Date: 24 Jun 08 - 01:37 PM Thanks, Houston, for correcting that rhyme. I haven't looked at the wikipedia page yet, but what you wrote helped jump start my memory. Here's really how I used to say that rain rain go away rhyme: Rain rain go away Come again some other day. Rain rain go away. Little Zizi wants to play. -snip- Of course, my name wasn't Zizi when I was a child. But how I got that name is also a whole 'nuther story. |
Subject: RE: It's Raining From: Houston_Diamond Date: 24 Jun 08 - 02:50 PM It was 'The Cascades' who recorded it first I believe... Subject: RE: It's Raining From: Houston_Diamond Date: 24 Jun 08 - 02:55 PM Sorry PoppaGator, seems to have errors on the HTML in this thread, I'll give it another go 'The Cascades - Rhythm Of The Falling Rain' oops, it was my fault... I missed the f out of 'a href' :S my bad should work now :D |
Subject: RE: It's Raining From: PoppaGator Date: 24 Jun 08 - 03:23 PM Thanks, Mr Problem ~ The Cascades, indeed! Not folk music, but a very nice song nevertheless. There sure are a lot of songs about rain, aren't there? The Irma Thomas recording I mentioned abovce is one of the few, if not the only one, whose title exactly coincides with this thread title, "It's Raining." Just thought of another good one; I trust I'm not repeating something already mentioned: I Can't Stand the Rain Female R&B singer; I'm thinking Betty Everett, but I believe I'm wrong about that... |

Subject: RE: It's Raining From: Azizi Date: 24 Jun 08 - 04:01 PM I don't think anyone's mentioned this song yet: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PscogedAWTI Eurythmics-Here Comes The Rain Again ** Unfortunately, the McCain Girls made a parody {a serious?} political called "Here Comes McCain Again". Here's a link to that video* http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/04/08/mccain-music-video-here-c_n_95609.html |
Subject: RE: It's Raining From: Azizi Date: 24 Jun 08 - 04:11 PM I left out the word video in that sentence, and then left off the comment that I was going to add with the asterisk. The comment was that for some reason, I can't find the "Here Comes McCain Again" on the YouTube site itself. I wonder if the Eurythemics put a halt to the McCain Girls' use of that song and the video, which so obviously is based on that pop group's work. But the McCain Girls' song "It's Raining McCain" is also based on the Weather Girls' song a previously recorded song, and the McCain Girls' video borrows heavily from the Weather Girls' video. So ?? Btw, I understand that the McCain Girls' have also made a McCain political video called "Brainiac" {I presume it's based on the pop song "Maniac". I haven't seen that video yet, and given its' title, I presume it doesn't have anything to do with rain {or McCain}. But, again, that's a whole 'nuther story. :o) |

Subject: RE: It's Raining From: Azizi Date: 24 Jun 08 - 11:52 PM The Google Ads showing below this message box are "Little Willie Foster Rainy Day Blues" and "It's Raining Cats And Dogs". So being curious, I decide to click on the Little Willie Foster hyperlink. That led me to http://www.pandora.com/?tc=x-036823-0035-1149&?searchFilter=artist&search=Little+Willie+Foster This radio station plays music based on your "stated" or re-stated interest. Which is interesting. But my question is how in the world does Google Ads do that anyway? And how did Pandora know that I clicked on a Blues song? Oh, no! Big Brother is definitely watching! But in spite of being slightly paranoid {"Slightly" Ha!}, I decided to stick around that radio link for a while and see what I could see {change that to "hear what I could hear"}. Apparently that radio station didn't have any Little Willie Foster, though its ad said it did. Instead, that station played two songs by Sunnyland Slim {sorry I'm having a senior moment and I can't remember the names of those songs though I liked them a lot}. Then the station played Brownie McGhee's "Lover" {to Ease My Worried Mind} followed by "New Jail House Blues" by Sonny Williamson. And then I heard "Go Back To The Country by Bill "Jazz" Gillium [this one was my least favorite so far, but it still wasn't bad, with "bad" here meaning it was alright]. Though that radio station initially didn't give me what I didn't know that I wanted [that Little Willie Foster song], I was still impressed. I had just about decided to sign up with that station when in mid "stream", it cut off the song I was listening to {whose name & artist I can't remember}, and asked me to register for free continual listening. So I took the bait and signed up. Unfortunately, it turns out that this radio station is only for US residents. That works for me, but doesn't work for every Mudcat member and guests. That's a downer. Sorry all of you non-UnitedStater guys and gals. Anyway, I'm still listening to the station, but decided to check out that other hyperlink. That link led to a page that advertised cat and dog products, and dog training schools. Since I don't have any cats or dogs, I'm not interested. If you have cats and dogs, I figure you already have those products and since your a Mudcat member or Mudcat visitor, your dog is bound to be exceptional and well behaved. So I'm not going to include that hyperlink. I guess I should say Thank you, Google for hipping me to that radio station. ["Thank you Google"] I figure one out of two hyperlinks which led to something I'm interested in ain't bad. {"Bad" here means it's good] I'm aware that this post only tangentially has anything to do with rain. But that's not my fault. |

Subject: RE: It's Raining From: Azizi Date: 25 Jun 08 - 07:57 AM Well, will wonders never cease! It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood. This is a oblique way of saying that I woke up this mornin and it's not raining!. "It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood" is also a reference to a long running children's television program that was/is based in my adopted hometown, Pittsburgh, PA. Mr. Roger's Neighborhood is the name of that program. I've read that Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania has more rainy days per year than any other US city, except, maybe Seattle, Washington. I gather from reading Flash Company's 24 Jun 08 - 10:40 AM post that Glastonbury in the UK also has a lot of rainy days. I'm curious, where is Glastonbury in relation to London,or some other part of the UK that a geographically challenged American like me would probably have heard of? Thanks in advance for that info. |

If Ma was Rainey, was the Prince of Monaco Rainier? Does The Rain In Spain fall mainly down the drain? Where do the Everlys cry during a drought? Anyway, after me, the deluge..... Randy Newman's "Louisiana 1927" Bessie Smith's "Backwater Blues" The Dillards' cover of "The Rainmaker" (Harry Nilsson?) Subject: RE: It's Raining (Up for arraignment) From: Severn Date: 25 Jun 08 - 07:06 PM Thanks. I've worked a bit backstage and have seen my share of mad props. On second thought, "Didn't It Rain" by Mahalia Jackson or "Noah" sung by the likes of, say, The Fairfield Four" might make even better deluge songs. Or at least more threatening ones. .....(And, after Noah, Joan and their Ark Of Triumph, do you find it as I do much harder to relate to Adam & Eve, even on my mother's side?) So, if Claude Rains, is it still visible? |
