I think the last thread on a similar subject was mostly brewing companies and wineries.

Last Friday I had a student driver pull around Lee Traffic Circle in front of me so I was able to read the logo on the car door -- Pale Rider Driving School.

To make it even better, the NH tag was " -- MYBAD -- ".

I love it when someone in a serious line of business has a sense of humor! (They probably need it to keep their sanity!)

A fictitious (but funny) sponsor of NPR's Car Talk program; the law firm of Dewey, Cheatham and Howe.

A fish shop in my home town, the proprietor of which was (quite appropriately) named Richard Sole, had a sign in the window which read; R.Sole's Fresh Fish.

The biggest realtor in Longview, Texas is Beer-Wells. Come to think of it that not funny, that's a damn fine idea. The biggest realtor in Baton Rouge, Louisiana when I was growing up was Gulley and Poor, not a great name for a real estate broker.

A little cafe in Chicago opened as "No Place Special", with a sub line something like "just good food". I was a bit disappointed to see that they had already folded when I discovered them.

There's a chain of shops in Britain that specializes in brass door hardware. It's called Knobs & Knockers.

There's a takeaway hamburger place in Hove, East Sussex, called Burger Off.

There are real beauty salons called Curl Up & Dye in Las Vegas, Chicago, Birmingham (UK), and probably lots more. My wife goes to this one in St. Paul, Minnesota.

A retail outlet for house paints, in Melbourne in the 70s, was called "The Paintbox" but the one I liked best was in Victoria St North Melbourne, just up the hill from the Queen Vic Market; it was a sex aids shop with the sign "The Jolly Roger - Pornbrokers to the Gentry!"

Cheers, Rowan

I believe that there was either a firm of solicitors or estate agents in Sheffield - Dalley and Doolittle.

When setting tutorial questions I would occasionally posit a firm : Gettingham Downe Quigley.

Weed It and Reap Garden Shop was in Biddeford, Maine. My favorite antique shop name used to be in Portland, Maine -- Remains To Be Seen.

I think there was a junk/architectural salvage place between Augusta, Maine and Belfast, Maine named something like "Honey Look What I Found!"

When I was a kid, the local dentist a couple blocks away with offices upstairs from the Rexall Pharmacy was Dr. Boozer. I still might have his business card around someplace.

Oh, back in the '90s there was a B&B in Chester, Vermont named Night With A Native.

A thrift store in our town was called Sacks Thrift Avenue.
Funds supported the crisis suicide hotline and help center.
Sax Fifth Ave tracked them down in this little Montana town and made them stop using the name, even though it was spelled a little differently. Now it is just called Sacks.

I've had fish and chips from the Codfather, but our personal relatively local favourites are "Your Plaice or Mine" and "A Fish called Rhondda" ..which was, of course, in the Rhondda valley.
