From the song list of his solo albums:

It`s a DIRTY ROTTEN SHAME that such a man had to go so early.

IF EVER YOU GO TO DUBLIN TOWN you will miss him.

We will ALWAYS REMEMBER him.

RIP, Ronnie Drew.

Ernest

When I was quite small, The Dubs were on Top Of The Pops doing either Seven Drunken Nights or Black Velvet Band.

My uncle came into the room and switched the telly off, muttering about 'fenians'. I was immediatly interested that these strange looking men with their big ol beards could cause such a reaction.
I started listening and later became a big fan. I had never heard anything like Ronnie Drew and as I got older I realised that I never would.

Luke became my hero but I recognise that Ronnie is the face and sound of the Dubs to the vast majority of the public.

Goow work and thanks, Ronnie

I was at Innerleithen Festival when Phil Cunningham, in the middle of his concert, announced Ronnie's passing. We went on to a song session which included "Dublin in the Rare Ould Times".
I've posted it before but you can still view the tribute programme that RTE did in February with Ronnie present.

And the ould triangle
went jingle jangle
all along the banks
of the Royal canal.

God love you Ronnie, we'll never see your like again.

the Ryan Confidential Ronnie Drew special will be repeated on RTE1 tv on 1 Jan 2009 at 6.30-7.30 pm and again 3 Jan, 5-6 pm.

I suspect this may be the programme on which a bunch of popstars sang a silly song written as a dedication to Ronnie Drew. He was present and able to enjoy the tribute (if he also thought it a poor song, he didn't say so!)

The RTÉ documentary will be an enlarged version of the former Ryan Confidential programme. New interviews with Ronnie's fellow Dubliners and a contribution of U2/Bono are added. Further more unreleased footage of the official Dubliners archive would be used to complete to film.
