1. What is your age range? 55
2. Gender? F
3. Do you have a favorite color? Dark Blues and Greens
4. Favorite authors/type of book? Lately, nonfiction issue books (environmental)
5. What books have you really been wanting? I buy the books I want to read and I have a gazillion still to read around the house.
6. What type of music do you like? Classical, folk, blues, jazz, classic rock, ecclectic world music, etc. The field is wide open.
7. What CDs have you really been wanting? I have way too many CDs now (after a coups at a garage sale last year my collection grew by 300!)
8. What movies have you been wanting? (specify VHS if you don't have a DVD player) I have NetFlix so I don't buy many movies. I don't have a list.
9. What is your t-shirt size? Medium or Large
10. Do you collect anything? if so, what? Yes, and I'm trying to clear it out! (See all of those de-clutter threads!)
11. What are some of your other hobbies? Cooking, gardening, sewing, photography, jewelry making.
12. Do you prefer gold-tone or silver-tone jewelry? "Tone" is a scary term, isn't it? I wear gold and silver, and they're probably too expensive for the gift exchange.
13. Please include anything else you feel is important that would help your Secret Santa know what you would like Rather that a box of calories (we have lots of those here) if you have a local specialty that is worth the trouble to ship, that's my suggestion if you're thinking of food. I love to read the local paper if you're finding a way to pad your gift. Things that ship well and I enjoy are small art objects. I've received several tiles from people over the years, and small wood carvings. Those always find a place on a shelf, on the wall, or near my computer. I can see two of them from here.
14. Remember that "negative hints" such as allergies might also be helpful. I doubt my allergies encoumpass anything you're liable to send.

And...for all the lazy gits out there...a link to last year's hint thread so you can say "no changes". Actually, I decided to retype it this year. The answers may be the same, maybe not, but at least they're current.

Well, I guess it's about time I posted something here. Wouldn't want to miss the boat -- or the sleigh, rather. Not much has changed since last year, but here goes anyway:

1. What is your age range? Old enough to know better (and old enough to have retired this year!)

2. Gender? Female

3. Do you have a favorite color? Purple, and any earth tones other than orange

4. Favorite authors/type of book? Love Patrick O'Brian -- read 'em all several times. Also enjoy other historical fiction, mysteries, thrillers

5. What books have you really been wanting? I'm pretty well set for books, thanks -- unless there's something good that's unique to your area

6. What type of music do you like? Just about any folk music, especially if it involves good harmony

7. What CDs have you really been wanting? Yours?

8. What movies have you been wanting? (specify VHS if you don't have a DVD player) Don't watch movies much

9. What is your t-shirt size? Hmmm, I'll pass on the T-shirts, thanks

10. Do you collect anything? if so, what? Other than dust rhinos, you mean? Jigsaw puzzles, cookbooks, pictures of my grandkid...

11. What are some of your other hobbies? Needlework, gardening

12. Do you prefer gold-tone or silver-tone jewelry? Gold-tone

13. Please include anything else you feel is important that would help your Secret Santa know what you would like. I'd enjoy anything from your local area -- your own music, maybe? And I am partial to things that are actually useful, though that's sometimes loosely interpreted...

14. Remember that "negative hints" such as allergies might also be helpful. No allergies that would be relevant here.

Thanks, Santa!

Nancy

One such DVD would be greatly appreciated.

Best wishes,

Bente

14. Remember that "negative hints" such as allergies might also be helpful. No allergies, but I try to avoid sweets so no chocolates please!

Here are Limpits details.

She's 12 and a half, hates boys, likes skulls, bones, blood, guts and gore (so any leftover Hallowe'en stuff is excellent), wears black or purple, is a Proto-Goth, bordering on MetalHead.

She likes working with beads, Manga drawing (Japanese Anime), is into with CSI (The original, not so much Miami, but we have all the DVDs), loves Doctor Who (the modern one, I'm the one who likes the Classic Dr Who), chocolate, cats, Darren Shan books (but we have all those too), Anthony Horrowitz (we don't have any of his) and pirates.

She passed her Grade 3 piano this year, is obsessed with the Sims and similar computer games and would like purple hair again.

Good luck, to the poor person who drew her as Santee - and spare a thought for the even poorer sap who got her as their Santa!

Dear Father Charistmas,

I hope all is well with you and your family, and of course with the reindeer and elves. Please say hello to the North Polar Bear for me, and send my regards to Paksu and Valkotukka.

Here is the gift information you requested:

ClaireBear's Secret Santa Hints List

1. What is your age range? 54 - 54

2. Gender? She-bear

3. Do you have a favorite color? Yes.......

.......Oh, which one? It's green (the yellower greens, especially). I am also fond of the redder oranges, wines, and warm browns. Black is good, too... I am not a fan of blue, blue-green, or purple.

4. Favorite authors/type of book? I read extensively. I like fiction -- whether it's serious, or a good mystery, an intriguing sci-fi (preferably not war-oriented), or a peculiar fantasy. My favorite authors have included Hope Mirrlees, Jane Austin, Wendell Berry (poetry), Charles de Lint (but Newford is getting tiresome), Elizabeth George, JRR Tolkien, Tony Hillerman, and Greg Bear. But there are som many others! Antiquated songbooks (of almost any type) and tomes of old poetry from the second-hand shop are an especial favorite. Oh, and cookbooks! Especially odd and/or ethnic ones.

5. What books have you really been wanting? Surprise me! Nothing in particular.

6. What type of music do you like? Again I am fairly broad minded, as long as it's nothing that would be played on a pop radio station. I like English traditional, English and French folk-rock from the '60s, French Canadian, Breton, African guitar, Scandinavian music, cowboy songs, sea chanties, early music and baroque period orchestral works, flamenco...get the idea?

7. What CDs have you really been wanting? Anything by Pete Coe; anything by Malicorne or anyone like them; also anything you or any Mudcatters you know have recorded.

8. What movies have you been wanting? (specify VHS if you don't have a DVD player) Nothing in particular, other than Rupert (Bear) cartoon episodes. DVDs must be designed for use in the U.S., though, which lets out most of those...

9. What is your t-shirt size? Sorry, I never wear them (but if I did I would be a very short XXL, like any bear). Sweatshirts and strange socks are always in good taste, though.

10. Do you collect anything? if so, what? Dust, pebbles, shells, books, CDs, recipes, spices, scarves, Arts & Crafts movement oddities, West Coast tribal art (that is, art of the indigenous tribes of the northwestern U.S. and the west coast of Canada).

11. What are some of your other hobbies? Cooking, drawing, collage, singing, celebrating holidays, failing to make any progress on decluttering my house and making it aesthetically pleasing.

12. Do you prefer gold-tone or silver-tone jewelry? Silver, and I have pierced ears (but can't wear posts, so only pendants or hoops).

13. Please include anything else you feel is important that would help your Secret Santa know what you would like You need not spend money on me. I would be overjoyed to have a pebble, an acorn, a sketch, or a leaf from where you live, together with your explanation of where it came from and why it is special to you.

Also, I have a very bright eight-year-old son, Martin, who is the light of my life, so if you know of a children's book we could read together or a game we could play, that would be fun as well.

14. Remember that "negative hints" such as allergies might also be helpful. Were you planning on sending penicillin? I hope not, because I'm allergic to that.

Yours respectfully,
ClaireBear

Hello Santa.

I'll be a good girl and fill in some hints but I like surprises so anything will do.

1. What is your age range? Cronologically 57 this month. Mentally MUCH younger

2. Gender? As far as I know Female - and always have been

3. Do you have a favorite color? Rich blues, autumn colours, deep purples - no wishy washy colours or pinks please

4. Favorite authors/type of book? I love old recipe books and herbals but don't really have favourite authors. Quite like sci-fantasy but have the Pratchetts and McCaffery's already

5. What books have you really been wanting? None special at the moment

6. What type of music do you like? I've a fairly eclectic taste in music although I'm not keen on Rap

7. What CDs have you really been wanting? None

8. What movies have you been wanting? (specify VHS if you don't have a DVD player) Errrrm - how do you make them picture things work?

9. What is your t-shirt size? XL - even in America although I can now wear a L cos I've been to the gym :-)

10. Do you collect anything? if so, what? Dragons, oil lamps, crystals

11. What are some of your other hobbies? I do aromatherapy for people. I'm now making some jewellery - especially fun earrings using semiprecious chips and beads. However I also love getting earrings of any kind

12. Do you prefer gold-tone or silver-tone jewelry? Silver any day

13. Please include anything else you feel is important that would help your Secret Santa know what you would like. I am a witch so interesting pebbles, bits of wood or 'pagan'/green man things are great. I'm also interested in medieval and early social history.

14. Remember that "negative hints" such as allergies might also be helpful. I am diabetic so sweet stuff isn't really a good idea(even though I'm not good!)

As I said at the beginning I like surprises so anything you feel I would like would be brilliant.

Hope Mrs Claus and the Elves are behaving and that all the Girlies in the stable are ready for the run. (They must all be female cos the males have lost their antlers by Christmas)

Lots of love and hugs
Tig xxx

Age range 0-100. I like local stuff from where Santas live, recordings of traditional music, food delicacies, drink delicacies, books about obscure historical industrial practises, local newspapers, post cards etc etc. But even more, I like being surprised.I would also like a Martin D28 guitar, or similar.

TO reiterate from the Secret Santa thread...

"Gifts can be whatever you please, we try to stick to US$20/£15 average."

It's the average price of a CD but it can be more or less than that, depending entirely on what you can afford. You can make your own present, burn your own songs onto a CD, buy from a store or donate a good condition reject from your own collection of clutter, we don't mind. The sum of $20 US or £15 sterling is only a guideline, please don't let anyone tell you otherwise! Many people spread the cost across a couple of months, collect little things over the weeks, use padded packages rather than boxed parcels, ask visiting friends to pass the parcel on - I'm happy to be used as a staging post for various packages, to post them on to other addresses - my record so far is 5 the year before last!

The whole point of Secret Santa is to foster a link with someone you might not otherwise have communicated with, have some fun taunting them (or not taunting them which is even more frustrating for the Santee), and you'll get something in return from someone you maybe don't know very well!

Once again it's copy & paste time as life's still chaotic!

Female, late 40's & looking to swop my December birthday next year to one during the Summer so's I can have a big party!

Love Purple, Black, Greens & Blues - but not pink!

Books: Have read all Terry Pratchett's and have a good collection of his Hard-back First Editions (apart from Discworld 1st & 2nd books - but they're nearly into 4 figures now so please don't worry about searching for them!!). Any science fantasy, dragons & wizzards, fiction, thrillers (have read almost all of Clive Cussler and Wilbur Smith, Alexander Kent, Barbara Erskine, Carlos Castenada to name a few), crime etc. Second-hand is preferred, dogeared and with broken spines are perfectly acceptable, shows they're recommended!

Musical taste: Traditional Folk, a capella singing, contempory folk, female voice (anything that's good, stuff you've done, anything of Catters, ones with good songs to try).

Not into movies or DVD's - rarely get time in front of the TV.

Size: still Large - I like chocolate a lot and I've become quite good at ice-cream cocktails recently....

Am accumulating an interesting collection of crafty earrings, pierced & dangly!!! Silver-tone seems to go best with my favourite colours. Seem to have accumulated stones from various places & beaches... Love Cats, Chocolate (a lot), gardening, plants & trees, secret gardens, interesting places, earth powers, intuition & friendship.

Allergies yes, mainly alkaline-forming foods (have never eaten fruit so that's a definite negative). Luckily there aren't many other negatives in my life apart from the food!

Happy to read any packing material too, as long as it isn't technical stuff that is!

Hmm - not much has changed.......
Have just set up my own web-page! - it's basic but it's a steep learning curve!

I am planning to emigrate in the next few years so I'm trying to clear a lot of stuff out of the house during that time so under the circumstances small, practical, edible, personal or musical gifts would be best for the time being.

1. What is your age range? 56 by Christmas

2. Gender? F

3. Do you have a favorite color? I like strong colours rather than pastel shades.

4. Favorite authors/type of book? No fiction books but stuff about your part of the world or music/songs always welcome.

5. What books have you really been wanting? Songs of sailors and Lumberjacks by Doerflinger (I think thats the correct title and author)

6. What type of music do you like? Folk, blues, UK comedy

7. What CDs have you really been wanting? Something by or local to Santa

8. What movies have you been wanting? (specify VHS if you don't have a DVD player) None.

9. What is your t-shirt size? Bigger than I used to be, about 40/42" 102/106cm - I like them loose and comfy.

10. Do you collect anything? if so, what? Dragons without people or crystals.

11. What are some of your other hobbies? Cross stitch, geocaching, swimming, travelling.

12. Do you prefer gold-tone or silver-tone jewelry? any

13. Please include anything else you feel is important that would help your Secret Santa know what you would like. I much prefer bitter and very dark chocolate to milk chocolate and hate white chocolate if you are sending munchies. I love things that are a bit quirky or odd, bit like myself really.

14. Remember that "negative hints" such as allergies might also be helpful. The house has very limited wall space for hanging things on.

1. What is your age range? 59

2. Gender? Female

3. Do you have a favorite color? I tend toward blues and greens.

4. Favorite authors/type of book? folklore and folktales for nonfiction, fantasy for fiction

5. What books have you really been wanting? I'm a librarian, so I get to see pretty much all the new ones. Folktale collections delight my heart, as do used books. I'm currently on a jag for Turkish and Japanese tales, and anything by an author named Post Wheeler. He was in the United States diplomatic corps in the tirst part of the 20th century, and he apparently collected tales as a hobby. He had the knack to make anything readable. Oh yes, any books by Arthur Waley (Secret History of the Mongols, Monkey, and others). He translated many fine obscure oriental classics.

6. What type of music do you like? What have you got by local folks? Usually I go for traditional Anglo-American and ballads, but novelty songs, music hall, storytelling, etc. are appreciated. Oh, and if anybody has some bandura music, I'm looking for that at the moment. (It's a Ukranian instrument) Used CD's are fine.

7. What CDs have you really been wanting? See above.

8. What movies have you been wanting? (specify VHS if you don't have a DVD player) Well, you asked. I'm looking for a Japanese animation classic called Arcadia of My Youth. I think it's only on VC.

9. What is your t-shirt size? XL

10. Do you collect anything? if so, what?

11. What are some of your other hobbies? embroidery and counted cross stitch

12. Do you prefer gold-tone or silver-tone jewelry? silver

13. Please include anything else you feel is important that would help your Secret Santa know what you would like. Edibles (sweet or savory) and potables are a wonderful default.

14. Remember that "negative hints" such as allergies might also be helpful. I'm an omnivore.

12. do you prefer gold-tone or silver-tone jewelry? Don't wear a whole lot of jewelry, but if I did, silver-tone.

1. What is your age range? 2. Gender?
Mature - Check my Mudcat profile.

3. Do you have a favourite colour?
Not really. I do like blue clothes for relaxation, red for stimulation, etc.

4. Favourite authors/type of book?
5. What books have you really been wanting?
See below

6. What type of music do you like?
7. What CDs have you really been wanting?
See below - ditto books

8. What movies have you been wanting? (specify VHS if you don't have a DVD player)
- none really - but I do collect very early cartoons on DVD - the region coding is a hassle in Australia.

9. What is your t-shirt size?
Prefer XXL or XXXL - cotton shrinks in wash - at least that what I keep telling myself!

10. Do you collect anything? if so, what?
Wil E. Coyote stuff - it's hard to get here in Oz.

11. What are some of your other hobbies?
See below

12. Do you prefer gold-tone or silver-tone jewellery?
No real preference

13. Please include anything else you feel is important that would help your Secret Santa know what you would like
See below

I have provided some hints (modified slightly from previous years) to help and deter all future Secret Santas, listed in more or less, but not necessarily, descending order of preference. Just go down the list till you reach a point at which you are comfortable, and remember, it's not the value of the gift, but the thought that counts. Of course, monetary value to a degree will offset rudeness and ill feeling, so you can insult me as much as you want, provided it is in balance...

Gold Bullion bars. For ease of accounting, please supply in complete dump truck loads - if you are not a Bruce Willis Fan, I expect this one will go completely over your head... :-)
(Actually, I got a neat little Lego dump truck filled with gold wrapped chocolate once! Thanks!)

Ditto, Silver bullion...

Jewellery, Gold (with stone settings if desired) of sufficient value that merits not melting it down. For ease of accounting please supply in complete container loads ...

Ditto, Silver...

Jewellery, Gold (with stone settings if desired) of sufficiently lesser value that merits melting it down. For ease of accounting please supply in complete container loads ...

Ditto Silver...

Precious Stones. For ease of accounting please supply in complete pallet loads ...

Ditto, Semiprecious Stones...

Negotiable Bearer Bonds. For ease of accounting please supply in complete pallet loads ...

Music, your personal CDs - single copies...

Music, your personal CDs - multiple copies...

Books - your personal output - ditto ditto ...

Non-Australian food or sweets or biscuits that will definitely be unavailable in Australia (most global brands are here - so something very local is appreciated more!) - be careful though as some things such as meats etc, will definitely be seized by Customs. No 'diet stuff' though as I can't stand the taste of artificial sweeteners, and yes I CAN taste most of them, apart from some of them giving me the runs etc. I'm a tea and coffee fan, and I prefer dark chocolate - the best I have found so far is the Lindt 85%.

Sheet Music (I can read anything up to full orchestral/band/choral scores - no wuckers mate!), or books new or secondhand, almost any topic. I don't have 'Rise Up Singing'... but anything old that you pick up secondhand will be appreciated. My tastes are eclectic and wide ranging, so those weird and wonderful old books from the turn of the century (I often collect them just for the tunes therein) that show you how to learn any instrument, I also like many old Oak (Music) Publications, or those that attempt to explain the theory of flight in the 1920's, or First Aid in WWI, or 'etiquette for young maids' etc, or anything that you think "Who the hell would want this?"... I am a 'Renaissance Man', and interested in things technical as well as artistic. Something like a programming manual for a Univac (I have a set of Burroughs B800 manuals & a DEC 10 system calls manual! as well as printouts of the original source code for Rogue & ADVENT), or a magnetic memory core plane, for instance... I play anything keyboard (piano, harpsichord, pipe & reed organs, piano accordions), whistles, Symphonie (hurdiegurdy), hammered dulcimer, Appalachian dulcimer, autoharp, misc percussion, but also I have some old 'folk music for guitar/banjo/etc' books. I am concentrating on my collecting these days in the music field, but that is not essential - if you see something that screams 'Weird Shit Man'...'

BTW, I already have the full set of Mudcat CDs.... Weird Shit Man...

I am into humour too BTW. If you want to learn something about me, see my profile, or visit http://homepage.powerup.com.au/~rhayes/vfoolshm.htm - my personal page is off that.... Weird Shit Man...

If you want to send me a T-shirt - I am about 6 ft tall and nearly 200 lbs. at least XL - 110cm + chest size - cotton ones shrink, you know. XXL or larger - I like to wear the really really large ones as night shirts. I don't yet have a Mudcat one. I like Royal/Navy blue.

Things REALLY don't have to be brand new - see the bit on old books, music, etc above. Old or unusual instruments - they don't have to be big or expensive.

Favourite author - Robert Aspirin (recently deceased) - don't have his last one, and they won't bring them into Australia, for some stupid reason.

Some previous year's "hits":
Some real Maple Syrup, in a cute Maple Leaf bottle! Yum! And the bottle was a great pass-on to a close friend who collects bottles.
Special Booze!
A whole bunch of different Jokers from playing Card decks.
Some various old books, including music.
A cute little Commedia-del-arte style 'fool'
Wil E. Coyote stuff.
A Lego dump truck packed with gold wrapped chocolate bars!

Thanks Guys!

1. What is your age range? I am stradling the Great 50/60 Divide although October will tilt me 60s-ward.

2. Gender? Female. Honest. Sian is not a boy's name (whatever some think!); Sion is the boy version.

3. Do you have a favorite color? Blue. and Turquoise. And Navy. And ultramarine. And azure. And ... not baby blue. (Funny, that.) And green - particularly bluey green.

4. Favorite authors/type of book? I like DIY and crafts and stuff, but I don't think I have a 'favourite'.

5. What books have you really been wanting? Nought, but I do like hymn books and books that discuss the background to traditional music (I have "Singing Cowboys & Musical Mountaineers" kind of stuff.) Sort of "ethnomusicology-lite". (Not too many big words!)

6. What type of music do you like? Trad of British Isles & North America

7. What CDs have you really been wanting? Nothing specific but I'm a sucker for archival recordings a la Folkways or Folk Legacy.

8. What movies have you been wanting? (specify VHS if you don't have a DVD player) I probably have most of what I want.

9. What is your t-shirt size? Don't wear 'em!

10. Do you collect anything? if so, what? Hymn books, community songbooks, craftbooks (see hobbies), clutter

11. What are some of your other hobbies? knitting, crocheting, learning english concertina, cooking/baking

12. Do you prefer gold-tone or silver-tone jewelry? silver (and I have pierced ears)

13. Please include anything else you feel is important that would help your Secret Santa know what you would like

I am a great believer in recycling. Past Santas (no names, spare blushes) have sent books which have been previously owned and that's jest fiiiinnnnne with me! Same with CDs, or whatever. I also really miss American Funnies, so feel free to forgo giftwrap in favour of the Sunday sheets!

14. Remember that "negative hints" such as allergies might also be helpful. I can't eat tomato or cucumber (fresh) but I don't think there's a big problem there!

I hereby pledge to do my best by my Santee, and please put me down for a relief Santa should the need arise (although I'm SURE that everyone is going to play the game most excellently this year, disasters can happen ... )

sian
