Subject: RE: Apple Hollow Music Fest Quebec Canada '09 From: bobad Date: 19 Jul 09 - 08:26 AM I must echo John's observation on the weather - two years in a row out of a swamp of miserable summer weather, Adrien plucks a picture perfect day for the festival - he owes someone big time. As usual a great day meeting old friends and making new ones and hearing some great music. Some highlights; seeing and hearing Penny Lang again - the last time was 1966 or 1967, Bruce and Ron again giving us a wonderful set and of course the elegance of Jesse Winchester - what can you say - an old smoothie who charms with his wit, wisdom and beautiful songs. The reunion set, hosted by Mike Regenstreif, was probably the highlight of the day for me though. It was spell binding listening to the tales and reminiscences that these stalwarts of the Montreal folk scene of the 60s and 70s were recounting and hearing them perform songs from those times. Thank you for a great day Adrien. |
Subject: RE: Apple Hollow Music Fest Quebec Canada '09 From: john f weldon Date: 19 Jul 09 - 07:34 AM Miraculous weather reversal due to Divine (or other) intervention created a perfect-weather day. The place was packed! Many fine performers, much amiable shooting-of-the-breeze. My Ashcan Alley contribution sold out! Enjoyed seeing John Mackenzie for the first time. Best moment: Mark Nerenberg steps in for missing slow-poke folk-reunion guys & gives stellar performance. A great musician, I could listen to him all day. Next year? |

We won't be online until then, unless a motel has a computer available in the lobby. Lookin' Forward to this! Dean |

Subject: RE: Apple Hollow Music Fest Quebec Canada '09 From: olddude Date: 10 Jul 09 - 08:32 PM Ventriloquist doing an act and making blond joke after blond joke. A blond in the audience stands up and said .. that is it, I am sick of this, what does the color of someone's hair have to do with how smart or dumb they are .. people like you never give us a break. the Ventriloquist said, Lady i am sorry it is just an act i didn't mean to offend you. the blond replies, I am not talking to you mister, i am talking to that little wooden bastard next to you -- to the cellar with all of us ... LOL |
Subject: RE: Apple Hollow Music Fest Quebec Canada '09 From: bankley Date: 10 Jul 09 - 04:57 PM hey Sookite, that'd be great... I'm not sure yet.... I'll be heading to the Maritimes in August before that... then we'll see... Dawg sent me the new Laura Langstaff CD... I played on a couple of trax, really nice production overall...she'll do well with it... I sent him a copy of the Mose Rager material that JT rescued and I transferred to digital...my buddy Fred de-noised it... it's a rare treat being that he only recorded a few songs in his life, and heavily influenced Merle Travis who influenced scores of pickers in turn... I'll let you know... thanx... |
Subject: RE: Apple Hollow Music Fest Quebec Canada '09 From: Sookite Date: 10 Jul 09 - 02:37 PM Ron, any idea yet when you might be coming out west to visit the Dawg? I'll line up a gig or two for you. DG |

How are you gonna pay?" She winks and spreads her legs. The cabbie says "You got anything smaller?" (now I go back into hiding again..R) |

Subject: RE: Apple Hollow Music Fest Quebec Canada '09 From: Jeri Date: 10 Jul 09 - 07:11 AM Anybody remember the Tasmanian devil from cartoons? Flip only knows how fast he's moving now. He'll peak on Saturday and stop moving on Sunday. Lemme rephrase that: he'll slow down on Sunday to where you can actually see all of him. The rest of the time, you glimpse the body hovering over a flower but the wings are all blurry, then he zips off. I've only been there one year, but I got the impression that's the routine. |
Subject: RE: Apple Hollow Music Fest Quebec Canada '09 From: KenM Date: 10 Jul 09 - 12:33 AM You wore this poor soul out with that description of your evening, Adrien. I'm going to bed. |

Subject: RE: Apple Hollow Music Fest Quebec Canada '09 From: bankley Date: 09 Jul 09 - 11:32 PM so this Newfoundlander is driving down a back road well out of St. John's and sees a big sign outside a diner that says 'LOBSTER TAIL and BEER' he says "Lard tunderin' Jaysus, me 3 favorite tings !" |
Subject: RE: Apple Hollow Music Fest Quebec Canada '09 From: frogprince Date: 09 Jul 09 - 11:23 PM Luvaduck; Adrien just apologized to me because he didn't answer a non-urgent pm question for a little while. Subject: RE: Apple Hollow Music Fest Quebec Canada '09 From: Peace Date: 09 Jul 09 - 11:06 PM I've seen you on a Saturday--for about twenty-three minutes. You were doing something ALL the time. Someone once told you that idle hands are the DEVIL'S playground. Man, I've never seen a guy like this. You and Dave are a matched set. He's on the go all the time, too. See you in August at the festival. |

Subject: RE: Apple Hollow Music Fest Quebec Canada '09 From: Beer Date: 09 Jul 09 - 10:26 PM Damn, I just realized who Sookite is. Sorry Dave. I was actually thinking this morning that I should drop you a note than other things got in the way and I forgot. Like planting cedar trees, installing an air vent for the washroom, picking up bags of stones and patio blocks, 45 minutes on the phone with a lady who likes to talk. But I listened as she is going to video tape the Montreal Folk Reunion. Took off and spent an hour at the estate where we are doing an auction this Saturday. Dropped in an offer condolence to a friends wife mother who passed away. Then getting supper ready as it is my turn to cook. Went down in the basement to bring salt in for the water softener only to find that there was two feet of water in the pit where the furnace is in. Back to the hardware store just in time to buy a sub pump and take care of the problem. Still light out side so I had time to cut my neighbors lawn and half of mine. Then there were the phone calls and e-mails to answer. Now having a bag of salt (I mean chips) because I think I need it. And i also think I need to wash it down. Hopefully tomorrow I will be able to complete the Youth Stage line up and send it in for publication. We are also adding a half hour show of Contra Dancing by a friend who has offered to do this with her group of professionals Vermont. Thank you April even though you are not a member here. Ad. |

Subject: RE: Apple Hollow Music Fest Quebec Canada '09 From: Peace Date: 09 Jul 09 - 08:37 PM Dave, I will certainly miss you. Even when I crunched your finger in the door jamb you made me feel welcome in your home. Your minor scream/moan caused by the pain and the blood rushing from your face made me fear we'd have to seek someone with surgical skills to reattach the digit. I asked if it hurt and you said "It *^*^^#$^ *&^%&^%$# (&*(*&(%@ *&^%@@#$!" or something like that. You still still did back-up guitar later that evening. You are gallant in name and in deed. Bruce |
