This afternoon while driving home from the dog park I heard an extremely hot Irish (I think) fiddle tune played by what I guessed was a National steel mandolin, a banjo==very fast, reminded me of Seamus Eagan, and a penny whistle. I had about ten more minutes of driving befoe I got hope so I hoped I would hear who it was. The announcef started listing what he had just played about the time I drove behind a hill and the broadcast came in and out. I did hear the name Jerry O'Connor, but I'm not sure if it was in connection with that piece. Can anyone elucidate? --seed

There's also a Gerry O'Connor who is sometimes called Gerry 'Banjo' O'Connor to differentiate him from the La Lugh fiddler. He has recorded a solo album or two. They are both Irish. If either played with Seumas Egan my guess would be Gerry Banjo - but don't take my word for it. The wife of Gerry O'Connor of La Lugh, singer and flute player Eithne Ní Uallacháin, died suddenly last month and is much missed.

Hi Seed.
I suspect what you heard was a track off Gerry O'Connors fairly new solo album,``Myriad´´.
Track number 9 is called``Cam a'Lochaigh´´.
I think this fits your discription....very fast,with Gerry on banjo,fiddle,guitar.Vinnie Kilduff on whistle,mandolin and PeterEades on bass.

This is the Gerry o'Connor that played with Four Man And A Dog.
We've had them over a couple of times for the Oslo Irish Music Festival,and I bought this CD off Gerry in January this year.Great stuff.....mostly original.

John, that sounds like it, all right. You're in Oslo, like in Norway? Irish music seems to have conquered Europe, at least--I think there are several other European Mudcatters who play Irish or are especially fond of the Celts. I wonder if Gerry O'Connor albums are available in this country (USA). I'll try emailing him. Thanks a lot. --seed

Gerry O'Connor is from Portroe, Nenagh Co. Tipp. I'm listening to his CD right now. If you can't track down any copies I'll be in New York with "Liam's Brother" next week and can bring copies with me.
