It occurs to me, reading about Paul Newman, that one of the things about him that always causes one to smile is that he really does represent one of the few men that is a role model for men, and is -- and always was -- sexy in classic, complicated, but ultimately compelling ways. There are lots of sexy men, and lots of good men -- but both together?

That was Paul Newman, all right: sexy AND good. I can think of a few others -- good newscasters like Murrow and Cronkite (although neither was as sexy as Paul), Spencer Tracy and George Scott... but he was an outstanding example of the small set.
