Subject: CRUCIBLE: Herga London-UK Mon 27 Oct 08 From: George Papavgeris Date: 23 Oct 08 - 05:56 AM It has been said that they bring guts and attitude back into folk music. Me, I don't care, I just love their sound. And so, I will be there to see CRUCIBLE on MONDAY 27th October at Herga Folk Club Pinner Green Social Club Rickmansworth Road Pinner, Middlesex HA5 3TJ |

Subject: RE: CRUCIBLE: Herga London-UK Mon 27 Oct 08 From: George Papavgeris Date: 28 Oct 08 - 06:16 AM Ahhh - what a great evening! Richard, Jess, Gav and Helen gave of their best, both with wonderfully and sensitively played tunes and some great vocals and harmonies. And their setlist was full of gems. Gorgeous versions of "Old horse" and "The ladies go dancing at Whitsun", two of my faves, but also some lovely songs I'd not heard before, or not in the versions done by Crucible - "Under the leaves" (or "Dead baby song") was one such. I can honestly say they blew us away; which I knew they would, of course, having hear them before, so no risk there. Indeed when a club member asked a couple of weeks ago "who are these Crucible people, can they be worth the £xxx fee?", I told them to just wait and see - last night the same person could be seen transfixed by the material, performances and professionalism of this wonderful group from Sheffield. English traditional music is alive and well, songs and tunes alike, when youngsters like these are willing to give it their best. Walkaboutsverse, pay attention. |

Subject: RE: CRUCIBLE: Herga London-UK Mon 27 Oct 08 From: BB Date: 28 Oct 08 - 04:42 PM This from one of our support performers here in Combe Martin last Saturday, someone who hadn't heard of them before - "Thank you for letting me play at such an amazing concert. Their interpretation of 'Dancing at Whitsun' (?) was just truly beautiful, and I thought the four part harmony was amazing." Well, we knew all that - that's why we booked them! Barbara |
Subject: RE: CRUCIBLE: Herga London-UK Mon 27 Oct 08 From: GUEST,Joe G Date: 28 Oct 08 - 07:10 PM 'We in Sheffield are spoilt - but you knew that' We do indeed know, Dave - Skyhook, Crucible, Glorystrokes to name only 3 great young bands. That is why there is such a healthy South Yorkshire element in the festival I am helping to put together. |
