Subject: RE: Stan James memorial events From: mg Date: 19 Dec 08 - 07:10 PM That is great that you and your brothers and sisters got together again. It is never easy meeting under these circumstances, and it is very difficult under the best of circumstances dividing up personal objects etc. It puts a huge strain on families, but I know this would have made Stan so happy. It will all get sorted out, as it always does, and the family will reorganize a bit to accomodate changes. It is so good to see cousins and aunts and uncles here too, as well as so many people who thought so highly of him. I presume there is still a big gathering yet to come, like a musical commemoration..I am hoping to make it but probably can't get away. I hope that the web sites are getting set up with links to his songs, stories etc. Don't forget that there are people who have offered to store memorabilia for a while and copy it if that would help, realizing of course if belongs to the family. Things have gotten quiet because of the holidays...everyone have a great Christmas or happy holiday. I hope someone in Stan's family puts together a potluck or something so you can meet over the holidays and toast each other and the new relationships that are forming and renewing the old ones... mg |
Subject: RE: Stan James memorial events From: Stilly River Sage Date: 19 Dec 08 - 07:54 PM Without going into huge personal detail (for yourselves, because this is an open forum on the Internet), I'd love to know how many and how old all of Stan's children are. I think I may have met one or two when I was a child (I'm 54 now). Stan and Kirby lived on a houseboat, right? That was back when we lived in West Seattle. SRS (Maggie Dwyer) |
Subject: RE: Stan James memorial events From: mg Date: 20 Dec 08 - 05:35 PM I remember Geoff as a young teenager, and Brenn of course I have known all his life, and remember Nigel as a baby...I think I briefly met Carrie as a teenager (her, not me) and saw the two youngest as babies. They are all growed up now...mg |

Wendy Ashford may help orginze musitions. onece agen Info regarding orginizing folk life events requested. Thanks. BennJames@me.com |
Subject: RE: Stan James memorial events From: GUEST Date: 10 Jan 09 - 01:57 PM What does the folklore society and the center for wooden boats do at Folklife? BrennJames@me.com looking for contacts |
Subject: RE: Stan James memorial events From: Genie Date: 10 Jan 09 - 05:33 PM I think the Folklike Festival tribute is a great idea! It's past the regular deadline for getting on the Folklife program schedule, but they may make an exception in a case like this. If that's not possible, maybe part of the time allocated to the Seatle Song Circle could be used for a tribute to Stan? Genie |

Subject: RE: Stan James memorial events From: Stewart Date: 03 Mar 09 - 05:55 PM We are finally going to have a long overdue memorial 'hoot' (hootenanny) for Stan James (Obit: Stan James). It will be on Saturday, April 4th from 7-10 pm at the Haller Lake Community Club, 12579 Densmore Ave N, Seattle. It will be sponsored by the Haller Lake Arts Council and the Pacific Northwest Folklore Society. I thank the Haller Lake Arts Council for securing the hall rent free. If you have particular ideas for the evening, let me know. We can play some recordings of Stan, but most of the evening will be an open 'hoot' where anyone who wishes to can say a few words about Stan and sing a song. It will be an evening of remembrance, celebration, fellowship and community. Cheers, S. in Seattle |

Subject: Stan James Memorial this Sat WA USA From: mg Date: 02 Apr 09 - 04:08 PM Hi..I did search for the old thread but couldn't find it per usual. Anyway, just wanted to remind everyone that the memorial is this weekend on Saturday. Maybe Stewart can provide the exact details again. I was hoping to make it but have to work and a slim chance of a ride does not look good at this time so I will probably just be there in spirit. mg |
