It's a cheagle. That's a cross between a bald eagle and a chicken.

Its daddy is the same rooster that was in that old joke whose punchline is, "Shhh!" said the rooster, pointing skyward, "Buzzards!"

Possibly an experiment with Grecian Formula for Eagles gone awry?

Probably neither Cluin - it's immature is all...

I got fooled by an immature buzzard a couple of years ago.. plumage was not what I was expecting, but a look at other exemplars soon confirmed it.

Birds of prey tend to vary more than other kinds. Within the same species they can be lighter or darker.

I suspect this eagle is a young bird that's growing its white feathers in an unusual way. (It takes a few years for a bald eagle to develop it's white head and wing tips.)

I've also seen funny-looking birds in August, when birds are molting their spring garb and new feathers (for winter) are coming in.

That's what happens when you...well, humans get hair on their palms.

I thought full moon was last week, or was that just in the UK?

I like the idea of a were-eagle, though I suspect it would be a bugger on the upholstery.

The Hancock Forum in British Columbia is an interesting site for those interested in Eagles and other raptors.

This is an old story from 2005.

Cheerily,
