Brill weekend. Now back home recovering!
Well done Yorkshire team for winning the war of the roses. Think ossonflags was their secret weapon !
Many thanks to Alio and all committee members/stewards/volunteers/helpers - brilliant work as usual.
I warned you to bring yer wellies and I was right (and then forgot to take mine with me! - doh!)
Loved sense of humour on campsite where stewards had put up sign announcing "Life Boat station" by stewards tent.
I was one of the silly buggers camping in a tent all weekend but I am glad to say that the tent, although severly tested, did its job and remained watertight.
Had a superb session outside The Waggon late Saturday night where entertainment was provided by The Free Sandwiches band and my mate Muppett.
All in all a really smashing weekend.

Thanks again Ali and all who helped to create and run Saddleworth FF 2009

The final concert in Greenfield Con Club was a lovely way to finish the festival.

Next years lineup looks great already!!

Fantastic day - all events well attended. And the artists were just superb!

The campsite has a lake now - very pretty. And 2 enterprising stewards have made signs directing campers to the shallow or deep end of the swimming pool! But they're all in such good spirits that it's amazing!

The Civic Hall was full for the concert - 400+ people - with fantastic guests including Eric Bogle and John Munro, and Strawhead. But for many the highlight of the concert was our own Hissyfit, who were just brilliant! Eric and John, of course, were just wonderful - there couldn't have been anyone in the hall who wasn't joining in the songs. Very emotional.

Off to bed now - long day ahead tomorrow!

I'm making a flying visit tomorrow - arriving around 11.00 and I'll need to be back ont' train before 5.00. Currently working out where to go and what to do - the current (cunning) plan is to get out at Greenfield, proceed in a northerly direction up the Oldham Road and see what happens. If you see a soft southerner wandering around looking dazed, give me a wave.

And Noah he said to his Missus
It's a while since we last had a lark!
Are we going this year down to Saddleworth?
As I'm thinking of building and ark...

Just a start?

And later...

When they finally got to the campsite'
The waves they were piddling and small.
There were no shipwrecks, and nobody drowned.
Not very Traditional at all...

Quack!

Car packed - off we go only to find that our remote village is cut off from the outside world by floodwater from the fields. Hopefully if the rain eases we should be able to make another attempt in a couple of hours. From one of Andrew's latest songs "Should we fly or swim or what?" - just don't ask about damp matches!!

See you soon       Carole

"Illy, Ali, Illy-Alio,
Cheerily, boys, cheerily..."

So sorry, folks, but it seems I won't be there after all - and it'll be the first year I've had to miss.
I've got withdrawal symptoms already - this weekend just won't be the same...

Save me a green triangle or an orange cream from the wars of the Roses as a consolation prize!

Pipradish - email me for the whole Programme of Events, then you can decide:
aliobrien@btinternet.com
Saturday's probably the best day, with around 30 events, but Uppermill is a lovely place to be all weekend, quite apart from the Festival, as Hazel (Nutty) said.

The weather in Uppermill today is glorious!! Hope it stays like this. See you at the Wagon 9ish for the Meet 'n' Greet.

Even without the Folk Festival, Uppermill is a very attractive village.

I would recommend it for a day or a weekend.

There's music in the pubs as well as the organised stuff and as most of the events happen along the length of one street (apart from a short detour to the Civic Hall) you can't get lost

Both Soldier Boy. You can either go round to the Festial Office first, or go over to the campsite - considering the lack of car parking spaces, you're better with the 2nd option really. And stewards will be selling campsite permits there - Tony and Dave on the Thursday / Friday.
If you arrive on the Thursday, head round to the Wagon for the Meet and Greet Session which Geoff Miller will be running from around 9p.m.. Nice to see old friends and faces.

Be good to see you, Cath. Sunday's my busy day: meet the artist (shurely shome mishtake? - ed), looping workshop and sing out the festival) but I'll buy you a cup of tea or something stronger if you can get me in between. And, yes, I'm planning on the miniscule detour via The Old Bridge to reaquaint myself with Mike Stand.

And, Ali, I'm not sure your influence over the weather has quite done the trick. Metcheck's saying "pleasant enough, if you don't mind it on the cool side, with a little overnight rain to freshen things up on Friday night and maybe some showers* on Sunday." I think the occasional Jamieson's will make it seem all right, though.

*And we all know what a shower in Uppermill is the equivalent of in normal language.

We will be like leeds United in the 60's and use every dirty trick in't book. Watch out Scowie Stan and Sid we will wipe that pesky lanky smile reet of tha faces tha knaws.
