Two pounds worth. And it's still green.

Gobi desert stash

From the link...

"A barrage of tests proves the marijuana possessed potent psychoactive properties and casts doubt on the theory that the ancients only grew the plant for hemp in order to make clothing, rope and other objects.

They apparently were getting high too."

Yeah. They got high and that is when the thought hit them that they could make shit outta that shit... man... shiiiit!

They also mentioned that after 2,700 years the material found had virtually zero remaining potency. (A warning to get some fresh goods occasionally?)

The comment that the stash stash "is quite similar to what's grown today" suggests that Chinese archaeologists aren't quite up to speed on some of the newer genetically-modified/hybrid varieties currently popular (or that some modern users/sellers greatly exaggerate the potency of their "stuff").

I think that the statute of limitations may be up on that stash.

I wonder what it was called back then. Gobi Gold?

A new find, perhaps, but an old story. Herodotous wrote about the ancient Scythians getting high in "vapor" baths -- they'd burn the hemp in enclosed tents (sort of like standing inside of a reefer!), and excavations of tombs in teh Altai mountains of Central Asia during the 20th century recovered braziers used for burning the pot along with residue from the plants.

"Before the burial, someone had carefully picked out all of the male plant parts, which are less psychoactive..."

Who are these Gobi people?

"This individual was buried with ... a kongou harp."

It figures - - - he was a musician(?).

What I find even more amazing is that the pot was found stashed in a "zip-locked" bag (see photo)!

Cheerily,
Charley Noble

I can't beleive that weed was for smoking. There were no munchies found among the grave goods. I mean, that would be really bad planning.

Ancient beliefs among those folks in the Gobi may have held that the dead, in their disembodied state, would not need to, or even be able to, eat ~ but that they would certainly appreciate catching a nice buzz.

By the way ~ I'm particularly astonished that they could determine that the corpse was that of a "blue-eyed" man.

The color of mummies' skin is not preserved ~ they're all very dark black regardless of their orignal skin-tone in life. I would have thought that eyeballs would be even more subject than epidermal tissue to decomposition, or at least drastic alteration, over the centuries.

back to the food thing... it is well known that food stuffs were included in the grave goods across centuries, continents and cultures.

If this dude was afforded prime weed by his tribe, then he damn sure was entitled to a few Yak treats.

Time for tea!
