and again, and again from now til Christmas hopefully, but only in the UK!

Yes, finally, the advert for Aldi supermarkets that the choir I belong to filmed in September was aired, possibly for the first time, last night between the two episodes of 'Scrubs' on channel E4 and of course, E4+1 an hour later.

It is only about 30 seconds long and the singing is about 3 seconds of that, but apart from the 'talent' (Phil Vickery) and the speaking part ('a new set of lights'), almost all the people you see are members of East London Chorus!

I'm the pale shape standing immediately in front of the tree and again in the middle front of the crowd in the last shot. My hair was in a plait that hung down over one shoulder so that 'landmark' isn't visible.

We spent 5 hours recording in all, and I had to eat so much chocolate - all to end up on the cutting room floor... ho hum, such is the life of a media star!*

* for star, read 'tart'.

Ahh, enjoy it while it lasts... Before the sad inevitable decline into cocaine and alcohol addiction sets in. The media frenzy over your increasingly erratic behaviour during interviews and film premiers. The ex with a fuzzy sex-tape that he's sold to the Daily Star shows up. Asda sending you off to some pricy rehab clinic like a disgraced daughter. You coming out redeemed. Then being forgotten as you descend into boring middle age. Only to be ressurected desperate to cling to whatever tattered faded memories of your former glory remain in the publics goldfish mind a la "I used to be a celebrity, please humiliate me on TV!". Then you can can become a recluse, and raise llamas and write crap childrens stories for a while. Before finally dying in 'mysterious circmstances' at your country estate in Kent.

I think it's scheduled to occur on >poster checks her 'stars sordid stories predictable media events' calendar< ohhhh, about the 26th June 2009. But you might want to check with the Daily Star, as they're sure to know when it's been planned for.

I've been to Aldi's...didn't see a choir there. There WAS an old lady singing, sort of under her breath to herself, fingering the fruit and squeezing the buns.

Folkie Dave - so am I!!!!

We weren't actually IN Aldi you know...   but I have been known to sing along to the muzak, much to the disgust of Limpit if she's been dragged along... :D

I will also admit to squeezing buns but not in the supermarket.

When they get their act together, you may be able to view it on the Aldi UK Website. They're still showing November's ad at the moment though.

The chocolate eating was part of the role and for the sake of continuity I had to keep refilling my plate, over and over and over again.... Let no-one say I don't suffer for my art!

I didn't think anyone was watching. Must be more careful in future. Note to self.... Make loud comments about the state of the stollen stocking, so close to Christmas.

Aren't you supposed to be busy hungrily fumbling the festive produce in some morally and socially improving seasonal tale, involving freezing snow and matches or summat, VTam? I'd get back onto the streets with your threadbare woollen stockings and fingerless gloves, before Aldi have you sued for distressing their posh but poor ("I got it from Waitrose") customers!!

We were singing '12 days of Christmas' but to be honest, despite us singing it through at least 12 times, they only used about 2 seconds of it.

The police were not involved... not until much later and in a different county.

She's such a star! Mind you Aldi is a bit downmarket. I've been asked to sing and play washboard for Waitrose (mind you, it was Lord Sainsbury who asked me) [Boom Boom]

For those across the pond...

Click above and you should eventually get to see it. Click the square to the right of the timer for glorious fullscreen surroundass!

I'm in the darker grey top with green/purple trousers, right in front of the tree at the very beginning, and centre left with a lantern in my left hand at the end.

Apart from the children, almost everyone else you see there are choir members.
