Subject: BS: Make Sure you Check From: olddude Date: 17 Dec 08 - 11:46 AM This time of the year is very hard for many people. Many have lost loved one's, many are depressed, many catter have serious health problems. Lets face it none of us are as young as we use to be. Just a small reminder. If you don't see someone posting like they normally do, if you have not heard from a neighbor or a friend in a while. Check on them, make sure they are alright. An email, a phone call doesn't take that long nor cost much. I had a couple of times recently that I called a friend that I had not heard from in a while. I am glad I did ... Just remember if we do not look after each other noone else will Sorry to sound like a preacher but I think it is a reminder that should be posted |
Subject: RE: BS: Make Sure you Check From: GUEST,Mrr Date: 17 Dec 08 - 11:49 AM I completely agree! Can anybody think of anyone we haven't heard from lately? |
Subject: RE: BS: Make Sure you Check From: katlaughing Date: 17 Dec 08 - 11:50 AM I just refreshed a thread gnu started about Bee. Good thread, olddude! |
Subject: RE: BS: Make Sure you Check From: olddude Date: 17 Dec 08 - 01:45 PM in regard to BEE someone who knows her, call her and check, it is important. Why am I so paranoid I called a friend of mine, he sounded really out of it on the phone. Well the pharmacist put the wrong meds in his refill. Instead of what he normally takes it was blood pressure meds instead that looked exactly like the meds he was taking for something else. I called his kids, they checked on him. He is ok after they took him to the ER but his blood pressure was so low had I not called he would be gone. Doc said it was quick thinking or he could be gone. Seems he had been taking them for a week and they built up. But it was unlike him to not talk to me in awhile ... CHECK ON BEE !! |
Subject: RE: BS: Make Sure you Check From: wysiwyg Date: 17 Dec 08 - 01:55 PM While I think it's great that we, as a community, notice people's absences, I also try to hold a good thought that if someone isn't visible here, they may just be having MORE FUN somewhere else, hopefully IRL and away from their puder. And I wish 'em well, in that case! Here's how it usually runs, Dan: Subject: RE: BS: Where be Bee? From: katlaughing - PM Date: 17 Dec 08 - 01:48 PM I just remembered I had her email addy, so have sent her a short note that we are wishing her well. Someone always does check, eventually. More so that in most settings, I am sure. People just need to leave themselves "findable." (hinthint) ~S~ |

Subject: RE: BS: Make Sure you Check From: topical tom Date: 17 Dec 08 - 03:38 PM A very moving song like so many of John's are. |
Subject: Lyr Add: HELLO IN THERE (John Prine) From: olddude Date: 17 Dec 08 - 04:00 PM HELLO IN THERE by John Prine as recorded by John Prine on "John Prine" (1971) 1. We had an apartment in the city, Me and Loretta liked living there. Well, it'd been years since the kids had grown, A life of their own Left us alone. John and Linda live in Omaha, And Joe is somewhere on the road. We lost Davy in the Korean war, And I still don't know what for, don't matter anymore. CHORUS: Ya' know that old trees just grow stronger, And old rivers grow wilder ev'ry day. Old people just grow lonesome Waiting for someone to say, "Hello in there, hello." 2. Me and Loretta, we don't talk much more, She sits and stares through the back door screen. And all the news just repeats itself Like some forgotten dream that we've both seen. Someday I'll go and call up Rudy, We worked together at the factory. But what could I say if he asks "What's new?" "Nothing, what's with you? Nothing much to do." CHORUS So if you're walking down the street sometime And spot some hollow ancient eyes, Please don't just pass 'em by and stare As if you didn't care, |
Subject: RE: BS: Make Sure you Check From: GUEST,Bob Ryszkiewicz Date: 17 Dec 08 - 04:09 PM Another good one old dude. Christmas is a sad and lonely time for lots of folks. A little initiative on our part to reach out goes a long way in making this old world a better place... Neighbors brought over some baked goods at, shall we say, just the right time...Made my day. And that same reaching out on the part of neighbors got me through a hard time during my all too recent hospital stay. Peace & Blessings to all...BR |
Subject: RE: BS: Make Sure you Check From: VirginiaTam Date: 17 Dec 08 - 04:14 PM You are beautiful OldDude. I did just that a week ago. Was worried about Wrinkles. Hadn't seen her around the threads in weeks. pm'd her. Just having some techno issues. I was just happy to know she was ok. Hopes to see her around here soon. Also been following the ICE thread cuz I was worried about the marooned ones. |
Subject: RE: BS: Make Sure you Check From: olddude Date: 17 Dec 08 - 04:22 PM You folks are the ones who are beautiful and you have all become a big part of my heart |
Subject: RE: BS: Make Sure you Check From: topical tom Date: 17 Dec 08 - 07:28 PM Wonderful idea, olddude! We need many more like you in this old world. |
Subject: RE: BS: Make Sure you Check From: Gurney Date: 17 Dec 08 - 07:58 PM Olddude, it sounds as if you have plenty of heart, judging by your recent posts. |
Subject: RE: BS: Make Sure you Check From: katlaughing Date: 17 Dec 08 - 10:53 PM Well, I can't find it now, but in 2001 we had a thread I started, I think, of folks who agreed to be contact people for one another in order to let Mudcat know if anything should happen to one of us. I don't think we've ever kept it per se, but there does seem to be a loose network of folks who eventually will get around to checking on someone, esp. if they are reminded by someone else ala gnu bringing up Bee not being around.:-) |
Subject: RE: BS: Make Sure you Check From: wysiwyg Date: 18 Dec 08 - 09:28 AM Yes. How I have done it is that I send the person an email to the effect that Mudcat ius looking for them, that I hope all is well, that I miss them and would love to catch up (offCat if they prefer), and I incluide a link to the thread. :~) Sometimes the reply includes the new Mudcat name they've been using. :~) And then I remind them to clean up their membership status privately with Joe, or another clone they may know better. Now you know the truth,m I'll have to killya. I do have a request though, and really this is a strong recommendation. Two actually. 1. When you send someone here your contact info, TITLE the PM as such ("My contact info") so it is easily found later, please! (When they aren't I just re-send it to myself with the changed PM title). 2. When you register at Mudcat, give the email address you actually USE, so mods can send you the kind of wellbeing-check email Kat and I are describing, if need be. (I just edited mine to alternate phone # and winter snail address. Took 90 seconds.) ~Susan |
Subject: RE: BS: Make Sure you Check From: maeve Date: 18 Dec 08 - 10:01 AM In my case, sending just such a "well-being check" via PM has resulted in some very special friendships here, for which I am so grateful! maeve |
