A great loss. A good obituary in the Guardian.

Four years after the revolution
And the old king's execution
Four years after remember how
Those courtiers took their final bow?

Marat, we're poor
And the poor stay poor
Marat, don't make us wait anymore
We want our rights
And we don't care how
We want our revolution

A lot of folkies(particularly old-school lefties) will have seen Adrian Mitchell reading at concerts and political meetings, and will have loved him dearly for it. He was a wonderful performer and a wonderful man. He wrote a large number of song lyrics for theatre shows, which many will have heard, as well as his prolific output of poems. I had the great privilege of collaborating with him in the 60's and 70': as composer and musical director I was involved in three shows with him. We wrote a lot of songs together, and had a lot of fun. A lovely man, sadly missed by many. There is another article in the Guardian today about him, Pinter, and Crick, by Jackie Ashley(don't know how to do clickies, sorry). The heading of the article is "In terms of spreading values, Mitchell mattered most", and I second that whole-heartedly.

Pinter and Mitchell. They were not that old. What the flip is going on?
Anyone noticed how many obits have cropped up on the MC in just the past few days? It's just creepy.

And I wonder what Adrian Mitchell would have made of today's Ode to Vimto story in the Independent. I tried a blue clicky but the link didn't work - so will post url in case it works better.... http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/health-and-wellbeing/health-news/ode-to-vimto-how-food-companies-are-teaching-schoolchildren-to-love-their-products-1215061.html

Thisis the second reference to Chorley I've seen in Adrian Mitchell's work - did he have some connection with the town?
