Subject: BS: Its getting lighter in the morning UK From: Rasener Date: 28 Jan 09 - 05:56 AM My wife suddenly commented this morning about it getting lighter much earlier in the morning, and I have begun to notice it staying lighter for longer in the afternoon. Just wondered how many minutes of extra light we gain each day in the morning and evening as we approach spring. Anybody know? |
Subject: RE: BS: Its getting lighter in the morning UK From: Keith A of Hertford Date: 28 Jan 09 - 06:00 AM The mornings carry on getting darker after the shortest day, because Earth is moving faster in it's orbit. All the extra light is in the evening. Mornings are just starting to catch up, and the pace will quicken. |

Subject: RE: BS: Its getting lighter in the morning UK From: Rasener Date: 28 Jan 09 - 06:56 AM Thanks Eddie Good example that. Almost half an hour of more light a week. |
Subject: RE: BS: Its getting lighter in the morning UK From: Phot Date: 28 Jan 09 - 08:03 AM It still dark when I go to work, and its still dark when I leave, so apart from the weekend I won't see the sun for another month! The joys of working in an office with no windows! Wassail!! Chris |
Subject: RE: BS: Its getting lighter in the morning UK From: GUEST,Essex Girl Date: 28 Jan 09 - 08:35 AM Same here Chris, luckily I don't work on Fridays so at least I get up in daylight for 3 days a week. |
Subject: RE: BS: Its getting lighter in the morning UK From: Rasener Date: 28 Jan 09 - 08:39 AM Isn't it lovely though, when that time of the year arrives, when you walk out the door and the sun is shining and the birds are twittering and the flowers are beginning to come out. That is still something that is still free in this world, yet is so magical. |
Subject: RE: BS: Its getting lighter in the morning UK From: Jean(eanjay) Date: 28 Jan 09 - 08:54 AM Nature is magical; I moved something in my garden this morning and a very small frog jumped out and scuttered into the pond. That and the bit of sun we have here today gave me a really good feeling. I replaced some heavy curtains for vertical blinds in December and what a difference that has made, the daylight coming through the blinds just makes the whole room seem more cheerful. |

Subject: RE: BS: Its getting lighter in the morning UK From: GUEST,CrazyEddie Date: 28 Jan 09 - 10:34 AM The link I put in in at 06.48 is live. Within it, you can change the month & year so you can see how much it changes week-by-week etc. You can even change "Sun" to "Moon" if you want. |
Subject: RE: BS: Its getting lighter in the morning UK From: Ebbie Date: 28 Jan 09 - 10:55 AM In Juneau, in southeast Alaska we are gaining just about half an hour a week. We start noticing the lengthening days every year about the first week of January. The change starts out slow and then begins galloping. It won't be wong before we wonder where the winter went. Subject: RE: BS: Its getting lighter in the morning UK From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 28 Jan 09 - 12:30 PM It seems to happen every year round about now. What a remarkable coincidence... |
Subject: RE: BS: Its getting lighter in the morning UK From: Liz the Squeak Date: 28 Jan 09 - 01:18 PM Solstice is only 7ish weeks away... and with it, Spring. It's dark when I go to work too, but I have a 13th floor office (and it's always a magical moment when I see the sun peeping over the horizon and lighting the white and peppermint green of the University College Hospital across road with rose and gold) and leave before 3.00pm so I get some light. It's getting late later too. LTS |
Subject: RE: BS: Its getting lighter in the morning UK From: Crane Driver Date: 28 Jan 09 - 01:31 PM Solstice? Don't you mean equinox? Whatever. The money for my contract ran out at the end of December, I got enough redundancy to last us a few months, so at the moment I don't do mornings. Let it shine! Andrew |
