Subject: Four Wet Pigs: Midi or Music ???
From: GutBucketeer
Date: 29 Jun 99 - 11:16 PM

Several months ago at a jam/song circle someone brought the chords and lyrics to Four Wet Pigs by Greg Brown. I really enjoyed the song but don't have the music for it, and don't have the recording. I think it would be a great camp song. Does anyone know if it has been published someplace, or where a Midi for it exists?

Thanks

Jim in Silver Spring

Jim...give me a call..*grin*...I am in Wheaton...I play it on the Autoharp, and can sing it over the phone....(not much of a 'tune').....I got it from Brian Bowers somehow...

or email at extree@erols.com

(oh..one of the first times I ever did it was at the Getaway about 7-8 years ago..there was a sign-up sheet for inpromteau workshops, and Mark Gilston said he'd ALWAYS wanted to do "Songs of Dismemberment"! so we did...I sang "4 Wet Pigs" and "Lucy Wan")

The tune is simple enough that I figured it out on the mandolin.

In case someone needs the words, here they are.

FOUR WET PIGS
(Greg Brown)

Here's a little song about four wet pigs
Here's a little song about four wet pigs
Two of them little and two of them big
Danced all night to the pig town jig

Two little pigs were just half grown
Two little pigs were big as a barn
Big as a barn, tall as a tree
Send 'em off to the factory

Slice 'em into bacon, cut 'em into ham
Squeeze 'em into sausage, grind 'em into SPAM
Throw their little eyes out in the rain
Pickle their feet and scramble their brains

Here's a little song about two wet pigs
Leanin' on the hog trough smokin' their cigs
Prayin' to God that they don't get big
Danced all night to the pig town jig
^^^

Thanks Bill: I found a Real Audio of a clip of it. I would like to learn it from you on the Autoharp since that's what I play too. I am hoping to be at the Song Circle Friday night (My first time). Will you be there?

Penny:

I went to CDNOW.com and searched for the song "four wet pigs"

It came up with 3 CDs, Greg Brown's Bath Tub Blues, and Iowa Waltz, and Brian Bowers Home Home On The Road.

If you click on Bath Tub Blues by Brown, or Home Home On The Road by Bowers they each have a Real Audio sample of the song.

When I saw this thread, I thought to my self, it has to go like this...
What have I now, said the fine old woman
What Have I now, this proud old woman did say
I have four wet pigs,
Each of them a county
but one poor pig
A stranger bore him away
But, my other three
Are good as good can be
and my fourth wet pig...
will be back in the fold one day...
Now I expect to be flamed by both republican and loyalist breatherin, but well, I'm just sitting here eating ham, draw what ever analogies you would.
Cheers Larry

I know that someone already mentioned the version by Bryan Bowers. But, if you play the autoharp, you should have every one of Bryan's cds anyway. This guy is simply the best autoharp player ever, a virtuoso.
