He must have been short-sighted.

Ahem. Singaround, the Beech, 3rd June, 8.30ish (8ish?). Be there, even though I probably won't be.

Well, as Danbert Nobacon kindly pointed out at some long forgotten point in the mid-eighties, "It's only five feet away from being an implant actually inside your head"...

I'm raking through the Radio Times to see what's on next Wednesday at nine...

BBC1 - The Apprentice (which is top viewing in Chez Sedayne)
BBC2 - Kate Adie Returns to Tienanmen Square
BBC3 - Lara Croft: Tombraider
BBC4 - Feasts (looks interesting)
Channel 4 - Embarrassing Bodies
ITV - Cops on Cameras
Channel 5 - The World's Strongest Toddler

A choice line-up for sure, without going into the realms of Sky and lesser digital channels. Committed telly addicts (such as ourselves) really ought to have a PVR so you never miss a thing.

Of course Pip might have an entirely different Idiot Lantern in mind.

Well, another grand night of tunes. Thanks to Rob, Ged, Chris, Steve, Brian, Ken, Brakyn, Phil, Mickey, Jen and that bloke that borrowed various shakey things of Mickey's. I thought he showed talent and not a little restraint. It's a pity he nipped off before I could thank him.

It's looking good for a bit of social dancing after Bollin's Evening of Dance on June Tuesday 30th. The Beer Garden is a bit sruffy but a good size and shape. So who ever turns up is in The Beech Band and Rob will call some dances

Thanks again

Thanks to Ged, Frank, Olga, Ken, Phil, Sandra, Dave, Phil, 2/3 of The Bailey Sisters, Mike, Brian, Debbie, Jen, Helen, Claudine (songs in French!!) Bob, Norman, Alan, Nigel, Martin and Dave for a brilliant and varied evening of songs.

I'd like to thank that couple in the corner who talked and giggled through lots of songs but it would clearly be inappropriate. Although the young woman mentioned Meatloaf she neither sang one of his songs nor offered to share that said delicacy with the rest of us.

Timothy Taylor Best was good whilst it lasted, the TT Landlord was young but keen and the Pedigree was ........ Pedigridious, I think.

More Songs on first and third Wednesdays and Tunes on the last Tuesday of the month.

With a good chance of a small local tour, The Bowling Green, The Horse & Jockey and The Beech, by Bollin Morris on the last Tuesday in June, much fun will be had.

Thanks again

hi Les

I like the splitting up of the instruments - it gives a different feel to the tune and when everyone kicks in again it's interesting to see (hear!) the whole again. Its almost like pulling the tune apart to see how it works.

I think the last 20/30 mins could stand to be a little faster for those who can stand it - and for those who cant it will challenge them a little more. After all, one can't play a tune slowly forever.

Myrtle, lovely to see you again, and to hear that wonderful sounding concertina of yours. I do hope you will come again when you can,

Ged

I will stick with slow and steady for most of the night but we could have a quicker session in the last 20 minutes or so - would this put too many people off?

I like the al together, then melodeons only for two then all then whistles for two and so on. What do others think?

I really am open to suggestions of any sort about the night. Last Tuesday was the 5th and I feel we are beginning to settle in.

Cheers

That tempo was good. I was itching to go faster on a couple of songs but tripping over my fingers on a couple of others - any faster and I would have been completely lost on the hard ones, & probably started tripping up on the easier ones.

Singing on 6 May as that will be the first Wednesday in May. This is why people built Stonehenge, I believe. When the sun passes over the Big Stone and shines through the Big Gap we all down the Beech for songs.

An interesting night of songs and tunes from Helen, Alan, Brian, Dave, Dave, Ann, John, Martin, Leaha, Norman, and his priceless 'Dad's Medley', Claudine who sang in French, as she is so, but explained the songs to us in impeccable English.

Also Hel and Jules who sang for the first but, we feel sure, not the last time.

A special thanks to that bloke with the baseball cap and mobile phone who clearly received an important message as Dave started 'Liverpool Gals'. The possibility of 'sampling' mobile phone conversations into folk songs opens up many new avenues, and we at the Beech are ready to explore them all!

See you all on Tuesday April 28 for Tunes and Wednesday 6 for Songs.

Cheers

Thanks, Pip - it's very good of you to say so! It's a song that I usually sing to myself while I'm cooking my tea - I hardly ever sing it in public.

Actually I still reeling from Sandra and Phil's two songs. Isn't Sandra an amazing singer and isn't Phil a great accompanist?

Anyway, must stop now in case I miss anyone out. Everyone seemed to be on fine form that night - must have been the spring air!

Thanks Nigel,
yes Sandra and Phil - a brilliant Willie O'Winesbury and Dave was in excellent form. Thanks also to Ged, Kate, Leia, Lia's friend, John, Ingrid for another great story, Barbara, Mike and his friend, Dave, Gordon, Brian, Bob and his pipes, Sue, Anne, John, Alan, Martin, Phil and yourself.

We clearly outnumbered everyone else in the pub but the others put up an interesting resistance banging, shouting and with the imaginative use of the fruit machine. Still, they buy beer, lots of it obviously, and help to keep the pub open.

Hope to see you all on Saturday around 12 at St Clements, High Lane, Chorlton, for the Big Green and around 8 for the Ceilidh - same place -with John Js Midgebites

Clearly Chorlton wasn't too boring for Sister Rosetta, Muddy Waters, The Beegees, The Beech Boys, Quentin Crisp or The Boat Band as I recall.

I would encourage anyone to visit The Greyhound, I guess S on T needs all the help it can get since Robbie left?

Best wishes
