After 12 seasons - from 1997 - of showing one or two live matches a week, Channel 5 (here in the UK) have stopped!!! No way to get my usual fix of MLB, guess I'll just have to go to the local primary school and see if they play rounders - boohoohoo;-(

High school baseball is what we're following right now. Our nephew is a southpaw with a 94 mph ball. And he can hit too. We expect he'll get offers from the majors. His dad used to be a catcher with the Blue Jays and ended up as a scout. But he'll go to college first. On a baseball scholarship.

That's what my nephew did, Wesley - Johns Hopkins. Then he went into journalism and PR. He keeps his foot in the baseball world through some industry clients.

Expos! Expos! Expos!

Went to spring training with Ken Millar last month. The Twins were playing against the Puerto Rico Nationals. Reminded me of the old Jerry Park in Montreal. I'm one of those fans that miss the game. Lack of support and other things made it not possible to continue. So back to my team before the Expos. "Go Tigers Go".

The bullpen has certainly been upgraded, maybe the team will finally realize its potential.

Let's hope that the new stadium is a success. With fewer seats and higher ticket prices in a down economy, more local fans might be content to stay home and watch the games on TV; management might start wishing they were back at Shea.

I'd like to see CitiBank's name taken off the building, and have it renamed Casey Stengel Field. Either that or, as many have suggested, name it after Jackie Robinson.

I hear my beloved Indians should be good this year and if Hafner can return to his form from a couple years ago we should easily take the Central and coast into the playoffs. Oh well, on opening day every team is a pennant winner.
