Subject: RE: BS: Severn Injured...Good thoughts, please From: Roger in Baltimore Date: 30 Apr 09 - 01:03 PM Welcome home Severn, I hope your recovery continues to move along at a good pace. So far it sounds like you are healing about as well as can be expected. You are probably learning that physical therapy is hard work, but it will pay off on less limitations in the future. Subject: RE: BS: Severn Injured...Good thoughts, please From: Severn Date: 29 Apr 09 - 06:37 PM Thanks to Chance, I'm going to get to hear a lot of my favorite local friends sing. Much better than Jerry Lewis' telathon where people are always ready to send money if he promised NOT to sing. He's done a lot of good over the years, but it was always my opinion that Jerry sang like his kids walked...... |

OK? Now all the curriers at the Rockville MD post office will have to do without me for a while. So much for currying favor and favoring curry..... |
Subject: RE: BS: Severn Injured...Good thoughts, please From: Amos Date: 29 Apr 09 - 03:01 PM Well, if you become well-healed you'll be able to fly out there in a medical chopper, if you need to. And if you find you are not healing enough, you should try a different tack. Or, perhaps more tact for the horse-spittle, which would including looking them down in the mouth. A |

Subject: RE: BS: Severn Injured...Good thoughts, please From: catspaw49 Date: 29 Apr 09 - 02:45 PM Bless you gnu.......I was okay with "being burned in a kitchen accident" and didn't need more, but when Sev said he was unloading a dishwasher..............I kinda' went into confusion overload and really didn't want to ask. But really Sev, that's like saying, "I was watching TV and a tiger rushed across the room and bit off my leg." I mean, it could happen and all but ?????? Not pressing the issue by any means.....You've been through enough!!! Just kinda' put me in the aforementioned confusion overload(:<)) Spaw |
Subject: RE: BS: Severn Injured...Good thoughts, please From: gnu Date: 29 Apr 09 - 02:22 PM Sev... "Somehow my shirts (button down cotton over a cotton tee) caught fire in my kitchen while putting away a dishwasher load." Been googling... there have been some recalls on dishwashers... I have so many questions, but, I'll bet not as adamantly as you. There is one report I cannot seem to find, about a fire hazard (explosion) that exists when a dishwasher is not used for a while, like when you are on vacation for a few weeks... I did post a link to it or at least discussed it in the past here at The Café. Perhaps when you recoup, you may find some answers. All above said assuming it WAS the dishwasher. And, ah, er, well, ummm, I hope you don't mind me asking these burning questions. |
Subject: RE: BS: Severn Injured...Good thoughts, please From: gnu Date: 29 Apr 09 - 01:55 PM Sev... "Hell, I didn't think myself worthy of 550 some posts,..." There woulda been a lot more if everybody at The Café knew you as well as a lot of us do. Continuing thoughts and prayers for your recoup. |
Subject: RE: BS: Severn Injured...Good thoughts, please From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 29 Apr 09 - 04:21 AM I thought it was only Australian hospitals that tried to starve patients! Subject: RE: BS: Severn Injured...Good thoughts, please From: Barry Finn Date: 28 Apr 09 - 08:31 PM Hi Severn, I'm glad to see & hear you're now at home & in a friendlier enviorment, not that the hosptial's not friendly, it's for recovery & you're now on the mend. You'll forget about the food & pain soon but if you don't move that arm about you'll forget how to do that too, so start up with those one arm push ups & chins ups you were known for doing & please forget about the puns. Take good care & if I don't see you through the week I'll see you through the window & if I don't see you through the window I'll see you through the pane. :-) All my best & hopes for a speedy mending Barry |
Subject: RE: BS: Severn Injured...Good thoughts, please From: Severn Date: 28 Apr 09 - 08:09 PM This crew of arcane idiots was and is forever my crew, Charley! I wouldn't try the ArCaine Mutuny on you all now. Hell, I didn't think myself worthy of 550 some posts, but "hail, yeah, the gang's all here!". Not to mention all the cards and letters (WOW!). Alas, the horse-spittle sent a few late ones back..... So thanks to you all with special shout outs to Chance & Suzette, my sisters Emily Thomas and Kate Savage and my cousin Kathie Mack (assisted by Steve La Roque) , mudcat stalwarts like Lisa Null, Emma B and wincingdevil, friends from since high school days like Steve St. John and George Matheos and a few others like Dottie Hurley, Elizabeth St. John and Ross Sutton, for books, music, Diabetic-worthy food to augment what they tried at times to feed me, rides and relay of messages when I was flat on my back and one-handed. I still can't drive and have limited use of my left arm, which will take a bit of therapy. hopefully, I'll be in shape to fly to my daughter's college graduation in Columbus OH on May 16. Back on my heals with my best foot forward, Severn Lucky not only to have you all there, but to have had the pleasure of knowing many of you in person. |

Subject: RE: BS: Severn Injured...Good thoughts, please From: Ebbie Date: 28 Apr 09 - 07:37 PM Welcome home! This is probably not one of those occasions of "Some day you'll look back at this and laugh" but it does sound like you are one lucky fella. My father burned his leg from shin to knee once when he and my brother were burning out a yellow jacket nest in a field. He always said that he knew better than to do what he did: stick out his shoe and roll the "empty" gasoline can closer to the fire but found himself doing it anyway. He doctored and dressed his leg for more than a year but except for permanent bad scars eventually everything came right. But it was a most exciting time. |
Subject: RE: BS: Severn Injured...Good thoughts, please From: Mrrzy Date: 28 Apr 09 - 07:13 PM So glad to hear from you! Bon courage for the rehab, and aren't you supposed to wash dishes with water rather than fire, or is it too soon to try humor? Tragedy plus time, but unsure how much time is needed, this was just awful. Poor you. |
Subject: RE: BS: Severn Injured...Good thoughts, please From: katlaughing Date: 28 Apr 09 - 06:25 PM Welcome home, here and there! Good to hear from you, but take it slow and easy, okay? (Bet you've heard that enough by now!) Hope it doesn't hurt too much to laugh a bit. We had fun trying to uppun you, but I doubt came close by half. ATB, kat |
Subject: RE: BS: Severn Injured...Good thoughts, please From: Tig Date: 28 Apr 09 - 05:54 PM Glad to hear that they have let you home and that you are on the mend. Lots of love and hugs Tig xxx |

Subject: RE: BS: Severn Injured...Good thoughts, please From: GUEST,Rapaire Date: 28 Apr 09 - 04:18 PM Welcome Home! You're one lucky SOB. You were wearing cotton over cotton and no poly-cotton blend. The natural fabrics burn (not good) but don't melt (really good, because then they don't stick to you). Listen, dude. Enough is really enough. In the future, follow Nancy Reagan's advice and "Just Say No." |
Subject: RE: BS: Severn Injured...Good thoughts, please From: Severn Date: 28 Apr 09 - 04:12 PM Home last night. Waiting on calls from a physical therapist and a visiting nurse. Have not been able to access the cat for a week at the rehab Ctr. Was not able to get on line at the hospital, It's good to be home. Somehow my shirts (button down cotton over a cotton tee) caught fire in my kitchen while putting away a dishwasher load.Stop, drop and roll didn't do the trick, but throwing cold water on my chest made it possible to tear off the two still burning shirts and throw them in the sink under cold water. Then 911 was called, and I was sent to Johns Hopkins Bayview burn center. I remained there for a month, where I could guest on mudcat one-handed but not get online. Then rehab with no Cat. Sorry I couldn't join in the fun here until now. I still hurt (sometimes life itself hurts) but am mending well and the skin grafts took well. The left arm needs lots of therapy. Nurses are gone, but they'll be back on Thursday. All for now. |

Subject: RE: BS: Severn Injured...Good thoughts, please From: Rapparee Date: 28 Apr 09 - 09:00 AM Emmy Lou Tallifero (of THOSE Talliferos) was dating the VERY eligible Chance Lee (scion of Robert E.'s family). She, of course, was a member of a sorority and living with her sorority sisters; he was a member of the oldest and most prestigious fraternity on campus. They were very, very smitten with each other. Emmy Lou, however, was "saving herself for marriage" (which included Chance, but not until after the ceremony united two of the First Families Of The South). Chance was frustrated. He was young and full of testosterone and he room had become a veritable den of seminal odors. Finally, his fraternity brothers decided they couldn't take it any longer and had to take matters into their own hands (so to speak). That evening they gathered outside the sorority house and serenaded Emmy Lou with a Beatles' hit. All over campus you could hear them singing, "All we are sayyyying...is give Chance a piece." |
