Subject: Did this ever happen to you? From: Matthew B. Date: 03 Jul 99 - 01:05 AM I was typing a message on one of the threads late at night, and instantly saw a response to it from another Mudcatter I adore. Then it occurred to me that she and I were both up at this same unGodly hour (or Godly for her her, if she's in, say, China) and reading the same words at the same time, in silent, unconscious union. And I got this warm, gushy feeling about how this one little website in all the Web is such a magical place for me, a place where I feel truly close to people so far away, whom I've never even met, but have gotten to know so well and care about so deeply. |
Subject: RE: Did this ever happen to you? From: DonMeixner Date: 03 Jul 99 - 01:13 AM Yes, it happens all the time with me. But everyone types faster and we are usually making rhe same cogent point. I don't feel fuzzy just envious and even more aware that great minds either think alike or have too much time on their hands. :) Best regards Don |

Subject: RE: Did this ever happen to you? From: alison Date: 03 Jul 99 - 01:27 AM Happens all the time..... not just reserved for Mudcat either....... used to happen even before all this internet stuff....... I can look at the night sky and see the same (mainly) constellations, same moon, as my friends are seeing somewhere else at a different time. I like to think they're watching us all...... could go on.. but I'd sound weird... hahahaha slainte alison |

Subject: RE: Did this ever happen to you? From: bseed(charleskratz) Date: 03 Jul 99 - 01:52 AM Alison, an old song I learned in church camp: I see the moon and the moon sees me, The moon sees somebody I'd like to see. God bless the moon and God bless me, And God bless the somebody I'd like to see. I really think that God above, Created you for me to love, And picked you out from all the rest, Because he knew I'd love you best. I see the moon... --seed |
Subject: RE: Did this ever happen to you? From: alison Date: 03 Jul 99 - 01:59 AM Thanks Seed, That was beautiful. and very apt... I had been feeling very angry earlier.. I've calmed down a lot now, thanks to many of my wonderful friends here. It's night now with many of you and I hope the moon and stars are shining on you all. slainte alison |
Subject: RE: Did this ever happen to you? From: Lonesome EJ Date: 03 Jul 99 - 02:14 AM Many times, most notably one night when Catspaw, Banjer and I were jumping back and forth at the same time on three threads. That was the night that the term "thread creep' was coined. I was laughing as each thread I had just checked went blue, and I rushed to see what new piece of craziness had been posted. |
Subject: Lyr Add: SHANGHAI BREEZES (John Denver) From: SingsIrish Songs Date: 03 Jul 99 - 04:22 AM I am missing a special someone terribly at the moment after having just read and replied to an email from said person...and now to read those song lyrics you posted, Seed. Well, I am getting misty eyed all over again.
Alison, I've often looked at the stars and moon and felt closer to family and friends who are thousands of miles away from me...it is a nice feeling. And Don, you are thinking of the theme song (Somewhere Out There) to "An American Tail" (First Fivel the mouse movie.)
There's also the John Denver song "Shanghai Breezes" that has the same type sentiments...(see below)
I've had experiences online when I've received immediate email replies from family or friends. The instantaneousness is great!
SingsIrish Songs
SHANGHAI BREEZES
It's funny how you sound as if you're right next door
And the moon and the stars are the same ones you see
There are lovers who walk hand in hand in the park
And the moon and the stars are the same ones you see
Shanghai breezes cool and clearing
And the moon and the stars are the same ones you see

Subject: RE: Did this ever happen to you? From: Big Mick Date: 03 Jul 99 - 10:30 AM Funny, sounds just like what I want to do when I feel the need to experience the wonder of it all. I climb my hill so I can get as close to the stars as I can. I take out my Low D, or my guitar, and I sit there and let it fill me with its magnificence. And I play to it all..........and hope that it can be heard. Mick |
Subject: RE: Did this ever happen to you? From: The Shambles Date: 03 Jul 99 - 01:57 PM Oh, It's you making all that noise. You certainly ARE heard......... Can you please find another hill? |
Subject: RE: Did this ever happen to you? From: Big Mick Date: 03 Jul 99 - 03:41 PM Would you give me some context to that last remark, please Mr. Shambles, so I know how to respond. Thanks. Mick |
Subject: RE: Did this ever happen to you? From: Joe Offer Date: 03 Jul 99 - 03:45 PM Well, I'm here on the same hill, too, and it's gettin' kinda crowded. Mick, can you tune that guitar, please??? -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: Did this ever happen to you? From: Rick Fielding Date: 03 Jul 99 - 04:35 PM I used to live behind a ravine (which is kind of a hill in reverse) and when sleepless,(often) would climb down to the bottom and make up minor key fiddle tunes from 2 am to 4 am. Twas heaven I'll tell you, although any people back up at the top who were contemplating suicide that night would not have been disuaded by the wafting minor scales. The tunes made ME happy though. rick |
Subject: RE: Did this ever happen to you? From: bseed(charleskratz) Date: 03 Jul 99 - 05:02 PM I wrote this song last fall during the series of weekend crashes, when in order to get a 'cat fix many of us were using Mudcat Help as methadone maintenance. This seems an appropriate time to revive it. (I would have used a link, but the Mudcat Help line seems to be out.) Missing the mudcat on the banks of the ohio. I met my Baby on a thread; Our souls are one, that's what she said. She said she'd always be with me, But the Mudcat's down--where can she be? (Cho.) Max, only say you'll bring 'em back: Without the threads, what good's my Mac? Each time a weekend rolls around, I'm all alone, 'cause the threads are down. We always met, my Baby and me, At the topmost thread just after three. We'd play thread-tag 'til time for bed, But not tonight, 'cause the threads are dead. It's Saturday night, and I'm alone, All I can do is weep and moan, All I can do is cry them blues, My Baby's gone, nuthin' left to lose. --seed |
Subject: Lyr Add: NO APHRODISIAC (The Whitlams) From: Helen Date: 03 Jul 99 - 06:24 PM There's an Oz pop song which says much the same, although it gets a bit weird in the last couple of verses. It's a gentle melody and a low key arrangement. I first heard it while driving back one Sunday night after visiting my boyfriend who lived 300 miles away.
I found the lyrics and chords at OLGA http://www.groovin.org/Olga/main/w/whitlams/no_aphrodisiac.crd Helen

"No Aphrodisiac" by The Whitlams
Transcribed by Daniel Meijer
This song is very simple, harmonically, even with the embellishments of the string section (Sydney's Fourplay - check them out!), but this doesn't detract from the song's impact. Love Tim Freedman's lyrics!!
Chords as follows - played by piano or arpeggiated by guitar. These are just the chords, voice them as you like, but on the CD, in the arpeggios, the guitar plays all chords as barre chords:
Dm Bb Gm Am
The arpeggios are picked:

Subject: RE: Did this ever happen to you? From: WyoWoman Date: 03 Jul 99 - 06:29 PM I thought once it might be satisfying to start a church on the basis of the "Most Wonderful Thing," where people would come together once a week and share good food and make music together and celebrate the thing in the past week that brought them the most wonder. Out here under Wyoming's amazing skies, wonder comes easily. I think it's a lousy week if I haven't had at least two or three heartfelt "Thank you's" as I walk my dogs or drive around the "neighborhood." Sort of in keeping with "The Color Purple," although I must say I was practicing my particular brand of faith before Alice Walker codified it for us. The Church of the Holy Thank You. (But then, I'm one of those cynical romantics, don'cha know? Getting more cynical and less romantic as time clomps by, but we all know that cynics are just heartbroken romantics...) KC |
Subject: RE: Did this ever happen to you? From: The Shambles Date: 03 Jul 99 - 08:06 PM The BBC have for many years been running a short 'Thought For The Day' piece on the radio. It is what's known as a 'God Spot' as it of a religous nature. Today I heard a question posed 'on air' as to whether atheists would ever have a thought worthy of inclusion? |
