Looking to find score for song/tune called Caliope House. Spelling may be off abit. Also looking for a tune called Ross's Reel. I found a Ross's Reel in M.M. Cole's, but wonder if there is another out there. These tunes are being played on Hammered Dulcimer in & around midwest. I have "Music Time" so can use either a digital(midi) copy or a scanned copy of sheet music.

A great big pre-thankyou for anyone who can help.

You may reply here, or e-mail me direct -- BeemerLady@AOL.com Thanks again,

Lucy Anderberg Hammered & Noters Dulcimer Society, Inc. (aka: H.A.N.D.S.) Loc. Northern Illinois

Caliope House is a tune rather than a song, i.e. I don't think there are any words to it (although its possible that someone has composed some).

It is a jig composed by Dave Richardson from Northumbria in the North East of England, who was a founder member of the group Boys of the Lough.

In spite of what others have said above, the correct spelling ot the tune's title is Calliope House, not Caliope House. Dave Richardson named it in honour of the folk music organisation in Pittsburgh - see http://www.calliopehouse.org/.

There are other threads about this exvellent tune (which we play too) - try searching the Mudcat archives for Calliope House instead of Caliope House.

Great tune this - we played it last night at our weekly folk night.
We usually follow it with 'Out on the Ocean' before returning to Calliope.
The Cowboy, very similar to 'Out on the Ocean', also works very well

Dave Richardson was not an original member of "The Boys Of The Lough".There were 3 different line-ups before he joined them.
I believe "Calliope House" was composed in the key of E major, but it's usually played in the more friendly key of D.

Hmm, we play it with Out on the Ocean too - maybe we unconsciously copied the idea from someone? Perhaps we ought to change it...

The Graemsay Jig also goes well with it, but I can't tell you where to find the dots for that.

Calliope House plays well and easily (on fiddle tuned instruments)in its original key of E major. It makes a nice contrast among the usual morass of G/D jigs.

Dave Richardson wrote it for the house of Highland piper George Balderose whose series of house concerts and music lessons in the late 70's and early 80's gave birth to the existing organization, Calliope: the Pittsburgh Folk Music Society. The original scrap of paper that he wrote it on is framed in George's living room.
