Subject: BS: Mudcat jewelers - idea From: Desert Dancer Date: 02 May 09 - 09:04 PM Any jewelers out there among the 'Cats? I know that Katlaughing does some... Today I was poking around on the web to see if I could replace the silver banjo charm earring (a favorite) that I lost. I found the charms, and I also found -- a catfish! Here are pictures of the charms: banjo catfish The banjo is a little longer than the catfish, and the catfish hangs horizontally. The manufacturer (or seller, at least) is BroderickCom. Wouldn't they make fun Mudcat earrings or a necklace... or a wine glass charm to bring to the next party... or a doo-dad to pin to one's instrument strap or hatband... or -- ? I know I'd like some for myself, and they'd be fun item to put in the auction... I could put something together myself, but since this is not my regular line, I'll have to invest in findings, tools, etc., and who knows how long that will take! So, I put this out there, in case some Mudcat crafter might beat me to it. ~ Becky in Tucson |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat jewelers - idea From: katlaughing Date: 02 May 09 - 09:12 PM Hey, that's a pretty neat site. Extensive charms selection. It looks as though they do not have a minimum order, either and the prices are reasonable, esp. for sterling silver. Thanks! If you have something specific in mind, I would be happy to do something up OR, I could get a few of the pertinent charms and put together a generic one or two of something and put them in the auction? Of course, Jeri or one of the other beaders might come up with something, too. The more the merrier, eh? kat |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat jewelers - idea From: Desert Dancer Date: 02 May 09 - 09:31 PM Yes, the prices look good compared to other places I found the banjo. The minimum shipping cost is about $7.50, so you'd want to be placing enough of an order to make that worthwhile. But with the number of different charms they have, the problem might be holding oneself back! I'm an earring person, myself. Beyond that, I don't have any specific design ideas. If you're inspired to put something in the auction, I'll put in a bid or two, for sure. And I agree, the more the merrier (keeping in mind the somewhat limited market...)! ~ Becky in Tucson |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat jewelers - idea From: Desert Dancer Date: 03 May 09 - 02:46 PM Also, just so you know -- I'd be happy to buy them at cost+ directly from a Mudcat jeweler; I don't expect anyone necessarily to donate them, certainly not just on my account! ~ Becky in Tucson |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat jewelers - idea From: Catherine Jayne Date: 04 May 09 - 02:49 PM I've got a lovely pair of Don's earrings...his work is wonderful I'm lucky enough to have a jeweller (silver and gold smith) as a partner and get lots of lovely pieces made for me. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat jewelers - idea From: katlaughing Date: 04 May 09 - 04:39 PM Becky, I think your idea of a few pieces with charms which match up to Mudcat is good and I understand wanting to keep them on the inexpensive side. I can do that, but it will take me a little time before i am ready, unless I just put the offer in the auction and make it a custom design. I wouldn't buy the supplies and start until the bidding was done. That way the person could pick the charms, gemstone colours, whether they wanted earrings, necklace, bracelet, brooch, etc. IT would all be beaded stuff, obviously. IF they wanted one of Don's silver pieces incorporated, or to commission one from him, they could contact him, directly. SO, let me know what you think of that idea, please, and I'll go from there. If anyone else has more ideas, let's hear them, please. I think Becky has come up with a great idea! |
